Dp had heart bypass ...

My Dp is 35 yrs old and had a heart attack in February this year closely followed by a bypass operation. He has recovered really well physically but over the last week or so he has been quiet and withdrawn and generally not himself. Anyway last night he told me he is really struggling with angry feelings. He describes it as real rage which can be triggered by something as simple as a person standing in his way which causes Dp to feel like he wants to hit this person. So far he has controlled it but i am worried about him.
I am wondering if this anger could be as a result of his heart attack and major surgery, does anyone have any experience of this? Any ideas to help Dp would be great as stress/anger is not good for him.

Sounds like you've all had a hard time.
Have you spoken to your GP? He might have some kind of post-traumatic stress thing needs dealing with?

Post operative depression isn't rare at all. Sounds like he needs some counselling- fair enough, what a life changing experience! I woudl give the GP a ring and ask for a referral, also contact BHF as trhey will have info. My Nan found that the local hospital support group was invaluable to her post heart attack.

it sounds like he need some counselling, in comming to terms with his heart attack.

he anger could just be that he has realised how fragile life can be.

thanks for the help Ellie, Peachy and Lizziemun. I am trying to get him to go see his GP but even after what he has been through he still doesn't want to bother the Dr!!!!
I am concerned as feeling that wound up cannot be good for his heart.
