Basal Cell carcinoma - nose

Hi All, don’t suppose anyone has experience of BCC on the nose? I’ve had a chat with GP who was pretty sure that’s what he was looking at and has done a 2WW referral, but has explained that whilst a BCC is a skin cancer, it’s not particularly worrying. I am a little worried about how the Mohs procedure will work on the nose. There are plenty of examples online, but it would be good to head from someone who has experience. FWIW, I’m 34, fair skinned, and have not been as careful as I should in the sun (outdoor life mostly rather than sunbathing). I have small children so I’m particularly keen to prepare them. And of course, I don’t have a diagnosis yet, but when I said to the GP, ‘but of course it could be nothing’ his reply was ‘well, I think it probably is though’. I have the option of both NHS and private, but for time reasons may well go private with this

Is it painful? I’m only on my 3rd dose but no change yet...

Not painful! Just very, very itchy!

I've PMd you OP. Smile

This Thread has been very reassuring as I have also got a spot that doesn't seem to want to disappear.

taptonaria27 · 03/03/2020 16:42

How is it now op? Mine got cut out (from my chest) on Friday but I now have effudix cream for the kerastoses on my face - what cream are you using?

ItsMutinyontheBunty · 08/03/2020 18:12

Thought I’d update. I’ve finished the Efudix now and I’m on the fucidin. Basil is significantly smaller, very crusty. The weeping has eased fortunately! Hope yours is looking better OP and taptonaria27.

Any further updates ladies. I've also got a suspected one on my nose. Very tiny but I am going to get it biopsied.

Scarcity20 · 04/12/2020 18:17

Hi I'd be interested in any update too please, I have a doctors appointment next week about a small one on my nose.

Kazplus2 · 06/12/2020 09:47

Mine was negative. A bit of sun damage and a bit of rosocea but that's it. Hope your appt goes ok.

Scarcity20 · 11/12/2020 20:29

Thanks kaz plus 2. I went for my appointment and the doctor who made my appointment on the phone wasn't in so i saw someone else. He looked and said it didn't look like much, and it is small but still..... He said it just looks like tiny blood vessels to the surface. And to keep an eye on it. Obviously I'm relieved at that but also slightly suspicious as I know they don't always refer people even when they should due to lack of funds. So hopefully that's not the case here! I will keep a close eye out for any changes from now on though.

Hello all,

I've had a BCC on the side of my face, very close to my right ear. I had it surgically removed about 8 weeks ago, and the surgeon did a very neat job, although the scar was longer than I'd expected.

Unfortunately they rang me with the results a few weeks ago to say that it was found to be an infiltrating BCC, and so I have to go back at the start of January for them to take a bit more. Although this is disappointing I think it's still very unlikely to be a serious thing, as BCCs very rarely spread.

I've not needed the MOHS because of where it is, but when it was first diagnosed I started to read the MacMillan page, skin cancer forum, and found it very informative. There are many people there who have had BCCs on their nose, and had them treated with MOHS (or flaps).

passmethemilk · 15/06/2021 15:13

I hope you are all ok.
Thread very informative.
Has anyone got any updates?

curlyfries · 15/06/2021 15:49

Hi, I’ve been looking for a thread related to BCC for a while, and thought I was the only person with this problem 😕
I had surgery under general anaesthetic a week ago for a BCC very close to my eye. I was shocked at the way my face looked a couple of days after, lots of blood and two black eyes, bit the worst part by far was the worry leading up to the surgery. It was really hard feeling that no one my age could relate.
Hope everyone’s doing ok.

AnneKipanki · 15/06/2021 16:23

I have been using Efudix for one week on a patch on my nose.

I did not see a doctor at my medical practice . I saw a nurse practitioner.
She sent photos to dermatologist at our nearest hospital and they said to start on the cream .
The nurse practitioner gave me a leaflet about actinic keratoses.

carrottopper · 30/05/2022 23:35

Hi can I ask how you are now please? My husband has an appointment next week for something that we think may be a bcc

Querty123456 · 30/05/2022 23:58

I'm sorry to hear this, I’ve had one and I remember being really scared about it. I think you’ll find that for the vast majority of people it’s a quick and easy job to remove them, so try not to worry too much!

Annoyingly mine was in an awkward place and an infiltratative one so I’ve ended up with quick bad scarring and not a particularly good cosmetic appearance but that’s very much the exception rather than the rule.
