Does anyone know anything about insulin resistance?

I have PCOS and apparently insulin resistance is common. I am struggling to lose weight as i crave sugary foods - particularly coca cola (but i think for the sugar rather than the caffeine). I have trawled round looking for info on how i would know, but keep mainly finding rather biased info by sites offering weight loss products.
Anybody know anything? Sorry to post and go, but only just thought of asking but will have to go and feed baby. Will check soon as poss.

Have a look at the website of Verity which is the UK based support group for women with PCOS - their web address is www.verity-pcos.org.uk.

bumping for you (because the only thing I know is that exercise reduces insulin resistance)

I seem to remember the celeb chef Anthony Worrall-Thompson has this and it can be a pre-diabetic state i.e. if you don't make adjustments to your lifestyle it can eventually progress into type 2 diabetes.
He has written a number of books relating to Low GI lifestyle and that has allowed him to manage things well. Your local library should be able to help you and I love his recipe for low GI shepherds pie which uses a cannelini bean mash instead of potatoes.

As everyone has said - low GI and exercise is really teh wayq to go. The other option is the carbohydrate addicts diet which is Atkins for two meals - protein and salad/veg and one normal meal. The idea being that you keep all your insulin usage to one one hour period a day but you can (within reason) eat what you want for that one hour.

If you are severely insulin resistant your GP may prescribe Metformin for you. But I think you would need to have a glucose tolerance test for that.
