This used to be an occasional thing but is now very regular and I feel like this every morning, and it becomes 10 times worse before I have to go anywhere, and depending on where I am going it can get 10 times worse again.

I feel like my wholse chest is shaking about.

hello Nut, sounds like anxiety to me. I sometimes have panic attacks, they pretty much are standard in comparison to the normal panic attack.

I can only think that you are subconciously anxious, which turns into shallow breathing, which i find you don't even realsie you are doing, then the chest thing happens.

Try breathing in and out of a paper bag, to calm yourself.

it is horrible i know xxxxx

loopylou6 · 01/09/2007 10:17

its anxiety, basically your adrenaline is pumping and your body is going into "fight mode" this is mother natures way of protecting u when u are in a dangerous situation (even though your not)

Nbg · 01/09/2007 10:18

I second what Pirate has said.

Thats exactly how I getand it is horrid.
I find that drinking some water and trying to distract myself works sometimes. Even if its just sending a text message on my phone if I'm out or calling someone.

nutcracker · 01/09/2007 10:18

Thanks PG, I do feel very anxious and am not really controlling my breathing well at all.

I have nothing to feel anxious about today, but I think at the back of my mind, I kn ow it is getting closer and closer to the kids going back to school and me having to face people that I don't want to face.

Haven't got a paper bag, so will just try and breath a bit slower.

trying breathing in gently and slowly for the count of 4, then out again for the count of 4, works wonders for me

nutcracker · 01/09/2007 10:19

It is horrid yes, cos I feel like I should be able to just stop it and I can't.

I am quite concerned that if I feel this bad now, how will I fell on Tuesday, but I have friends walking to school with me so that will help a bit I hope.

Singing also helps as it regulates your carbon dioxide levels which you have too much of with panic attacks through breathing quickly. If you haven't got a paper bag, cup your hands around your mouth and nose and breathe.

Nbg · 01/09/2007 10:21

I find I'm better when I'm with people too Nutty.
Maybe see if you can meet people at a set time and walk with them everyday.

LIZS · 01/09/2007 10:22

Sounds like a panic attack . Deep breathing , like in labour, may help. Worth mentioning to the counsellor when you get to him/her. Could you make a list first thing each day of what you have to do and plan it in your head. Do you drink a lot of coffee or coke ?

nutcracker · 01/09/2007 10:23

Yeah, I normally do, as we walk with a neighbour so I should be ok until I get to the gates at least.

I actually walked home from the doctors yesterday because I couldn't face getting on the bus, which is stupid as it's a bus that I have caught millions of times before, but i'd felt so anxious on the journey there, I decided to walk back instead.

Don't drink either of those LIZ, well very occasionally have coffe, but am more of a tea drinker.

I think my gp will have noticed how anxious I was yesterday, as I could hardley speak and couldn't sit still.

Think I will go and sit upstairs for 5 min, and then get dressed and start on the housework, hopefully that will take my mind off things a bit.

When I started CBT, she told me to avoid all caffine drinks, cheese, chocolates and sugary stuff. It does make a difference.

Do you think meds might help you? I know you said the other day you were going to ask aboiut them.

pirategirl · 01/09/2007 10:41

when i have one, i have to lie down, breath slowly and regualrly, try and concentrate on something. I had one at dd's schol play, but managed to get thru it by concentrating ong the play, and sipping sweet tea.

poor you xxx

nutcracker · 01/09/2007 12:58

Have spoken to the gp and she wants me to fill in a depresion questionaire and go back and see her in 2 weeks, just so we can see if I greatly improve once the kids ar back at school or not.

She said that depending on the results of the questionaire and how I am feeling, we can then see about ad's.

She has also given me the number of a counsellor who I need to ring next week.

Glad your feeling better Nutty

tiredemma · 01/09/2007 15:10

DP was like this last year nutty- horrendous anxiety attacks, he found lying alone the bed, eyes closed deep breathing helped ( although not exactly practical with kids around your feet)- he did the questionnaire at the GPs and was tickboxed as 'depressed' but showing it through stress and anxiety and so was referred to local mental health team- a chat with worker there kind of helped- he is a bit more chilled now and suffers panic attacks less frequently

nutcracker · 01/09/2007 16:26

Thanks Nbg

I'm not sure what my questionaire results will mean, as I don't know how they score it tbh.
The feeling anxious is a new thing to me really, as although I felt down for a while, I have never felt so panicky.

I am hoping that it improves once I have got next week over and done with, as I know most of it is related to seeing my ex friend at school and having to explain why we are no longer friends.

She just came out of her mums house (opp me) and I could fell myself getting more and more anxious as soon as I saw her.

Blimey, I was just googling to see if I could find out what the results of my depression questionaire would mean, and I found an online questionaire and I scored 68, anything higher than 54 is considered to be severly depressed and in need or urgent medical treatment.

Thats a bit of a shock, cos although I know I feel shite I never expected that, but I answered the questions truthfully.
