Traveling with a new born

Advice pls. I am due early June and got a family holiday booked for mid July. 4 hour flight, baby won't have had any jabs either and I will be having a c-section. He might be around 6 weeks long if we go? Xx

Where is the holiday to? That could be a deal breaker for me with the baby having no vaccinations. My DS would have been a nightmare on a trip that early, but it all depends on what type of baby you have.

Do you have a date for your section?

No date for section yet. Need to see consultant to make sure it would actually be ok to fly too. Holiday is to fuerteventura xx

My newborns would have been fine to travel at that time. I also had a c-section for both births. 1st was an emergency and second was planned. By six weeks I felt really good. Travel without vaccinations might be a worry but your doctor should be fable to advise whether it is advisable.

I wouldn’t, but then I’m over cautious - I’ve decided against taking mine on a plane until she’s had the MMR given all the measles around at the moment.

You also have to allow time to register the birth and get a passport in peak season. Could you move the dates back?

As has been said, you might be cutting it fine to get a passport. We didn't even manage to register the birth until our baby was over six weeks as the register office was full until then.

You might also need blood thinners to fly so soon after major surgery.

I had my son in March last year ((2nd c section) and 7 weeks later was in Santorini for my brothers wedding. It had been booked for 2 years!

He didn't have his jabs until we returned.

And that was with us both being kept in hospital for 8 days after the birth.

As soon as he was born I made an appointment to register the birth, I had already got the passport forms before I went in to hosp. We had spoken to a friend regarding signing the forms and had everything ready to go.

Passport took less than 2 weeks to arrive.

It's doable but depends on how you recover and how organised you are

Good luck!

Thank you. This will be my second c section I did feel fine after 6 weeks then but may main worry is keeping him cool and no jabs before we go xx
