DS had an accident - this morning his foot is really painful, won't stand on it - can I use ibuleve?

My fault. If I'd stayed with my poxy Value ironing board, he would have been crushed by about 2lb of weight.. instead I finally traded it in for a luxe wide heavy bugger that makes ironing fab, but almost killed DS last night... He was checked over, looked in his eyes, neck (it hit him across the back of the neck).. all OK. He said his foot was sore but we didn't worry about it tbh. It wiggled and that was it...

This morning he's not wanting to walk on it, but I'm not sure if that's because it's that bad, or he's afraid because it hurts. I gave him some nurofen before I came to work (is with dh) but I'm wondering if ibuleve or similar would be more effective/help?

I also wonder if we should get him back to the gp. I work so hard at not overreacting and smothering him in cotton wool, but this time I truly don't know what line to take....

All advice gratefully received.

how old is he ? Chances are it is bruised but I don't think Ibuleve etc is recommended below aged 12. Hve you got any Arnica gel or cream (works wonders on sprains) and put ice on it ?

I would get it checked if only to put your mind at rest, he might have sprained it and not noticed properly last night as he was lying down.
And don't blame yourself, although it's a good reason to do what I do and give up ironing altogether

He's just about 2yrs old.. I tried to put even a cold cloth on it and he went crazy, but only because he hates cold things. I'll get DH to pop out for some arnica cream, do you really think it works? We'll give it a go.

Argh, just rang DH and he hasn't taken him to GP because he's walking on it, but now I'm worrying that the nurofen is taking away the pain enough...

So my new question is, if it was a fracture (for example) would nurofen be enough to take the pain away, and should we be trying to keep him still even though he's fine on it right now?

Thanks

Arnica is amazing . I've sprained my ankle more times than I care to remeber and it is great stuff for bringing out bruising and minimising swelling. Also use Nurofen (anti inflammatory effect) and Voltaren (not suitable for kids) for stiffness. I crushed dd's foot under her pushchair at around 18 months (she tipped it over while stationary on uneven ground and wasn't strapped in ). She also wouldn't walk on it until she saw her friend the next day and suddenly was running around. Since then she has sprainend her ankle so badly we took her ot A and E for an xray then been skiing on it two days later . They can recover much quicker than us poor adults. Hope he's ok.

I have Ibuleve to put on ds's legs when he wakes in the night with leg pain. He is only 4 (was 3 when i was given it), and the pharmacist did question it when I went to collect it, but said that a very tiny amount would be ok, like a small pea sized blob HTH

Cheers for that Nutcracker. He is very big for 2, so might ask the GP if we still need something later today.
