Any ideas?

I'm after someone with medical knowledge or someone who's had the same kind of experience please......

DH has just been sent a text message saying at the request of his GP an appointment has been made for him next Wednesday to have an ultrasound. That's it. Nothing as to why or anything. He has had a number of blood tests recently as part of his yearly health check.

I told him to call the docs to ask what it's all about and surprisingly (🙄) they are closed. Me being me (overthinker, anxiety) thinks its really shitty to send that kind of message at that time of night without specifying what it's for. I'm now shitting myself that something is seriously wrong 😭

Question is what do they normally use ultrasound on blokes for?

He has been on medication for gout for a couple of years.. Could it be linked to this??

He will call tomorrow but I spose I'm just after a bit of reassurance 😕

While i couldn't guess what the ultrasound may be for..
I had a text on a Friday evening from my hospital, confirming an appointment i knew nothing about the following Monday.
Obviously no-one wouldve been in the appointments office at that time, so i deduced the texts must be automatically sent, and therefore contain no details other then the appointment date and time.
Not much help i know, but your DHs case isn't unusual.. Ring your GP tomorrow, i'm expect they're just being thorough..

AFAIK, the only ultrasound screening for men is for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm, and that is only routine for over 65s (you don't say how old he is).

It could be lots of things, OP, honestly. If his recent bloods showed an abnormality in his liver or kidney tests, for example, then the next step might be to scan those organs. It certainly doesn’t mean there’s anything seriously wrong. As a GP I order ultrasounds fairly frequently and the majority do not end up revealing anything serious.

He's just spoken to the receptionist and it's because his liver function on blood tests has come back abnormal... He's only 42! Liver shouldn't be packing up yet??!! 😔

It's not unusual to find some abnormalities in liver function tests in middle aged men. Sometimes it's due to being overweight or drinking a bit too much - I don't know if either of those things might apply in your husband's case? Can be medication-related also. There are lots of potential causes, anyway, and most of them aren't any reason to panic.

He's also been on allopurinol and colchicine for atleast 2 years to keep gout at bay/gout attack 😕

My Dh was referred for a ultrasound on his liver due to abnormal bloods
It was fine

My husband had to go for an ultrasound as his liver function test came back abnormal and it turned out to be gallstones so not always anything major.
