Palpitations after air travel.

I travelled to during Christmas and started having palpitations about 4 hours into the flight, the flight was about 7 hours long. I must confess that I was extremely anxious about flying. My had friend recently had health challenges that was made worse by travelling. So this made me very anxious about flying. It subsided a few days after but started again when travelling back to the UK and has been quite consistent since then.

I have had palpitations in the past and had the holter monitor, as well as ecg and echo but nothing was found other than my ecg was abnormal but 2 doctors told me they don't know why and its probably normal for me.

I really don't know if its anxiety/stress or something to investigate, I also have to travel again in Feb.

There is this really good cardiologist on YouTube ( Sanjay Gupta- York Cardiology) who has made a few videos about palpitations and ectopic heart beats ( which like you I have had investigated and told were benign.)

He recommended a breathing exercise which I find really works to calm down the palpitations/ ectopic ( mine seem to be triggered by certain sorts of foods- particularly sugar or stuff with lots of additives.) Very simple- you breath in on a count of 5 seconds then out for 5. You need to do this for 5 minutes in total.

Have a look at his videos they are really informative and he's an actual consultant cardiologist not just some quack!

I would say anxiety related. Sometimes the palpitations come after the anxiety has passed for me. Deep breathing I find really helps x
