Husband wet the bed

I'm 19 weeks pregnant and woke up this morning to my husband asking if everything was ok because the bed was wet. After some investigating we realised it was him and not me. So strange! We'd had a normal evening at home, no alcohol ( he rarely drinks anyway). He did drink quite a bit of water but he usually does and he went for a wee just before bed. Do we just put it down to a one off strange and unexplained occurrence? Has this ever happened to anyone else?

i would definitely mention this to the doctor it can be a symptom of something but it may also be a one off.When in doubt check it out

This happened to two people I know. In both cases it turned out to be diabetes.

Is he very thirsty and loosing weight?

Not losing weight( also not overweight ) and no thirstier than usual. Hmmm....will look up other symptoms just in case

Could it be a UTI?
There's a chance it's just a random one off though. It's possible he had a 'toilet dream' but doesn't remember it.
Does he have any other health issues?

No health issues, he's only 32, a good weight and works on his feet all day so gets lots of exercise. Everything points to a one-off but it is just so bloody odd! Told him to keep an eye out for anything unusual happening to his body over the next week or so. Feel bad for him, he's so embarrassed about it which of course he doesn't need to be. He's busy trying to clean the mattress now which is the worst part of this whole thing. What a pain!

How long has he been drinking quite a bit of water before bed? I would definitely suggest a GP appointment, take a urine sample along so they can test it for glucose and ketones, diabetes needs to be ruled out. Toilet dreams rarely cause bedwetting, they tend to be the brain's way of waking the body up because the bladder is full.

Type 1 diabetics are generally not overweight. You can pop to the pharmacist for a test to rule it out.

Are you sure it was him?

I leapt out of bed one night as dh had wet the bed. Turfed him out and we set to changing the bed before we realised my waters had gone!!

Happened to me once, I was vividly dreaming that I was on the toilet and I did a massive wee! Could have just been that, a one off - fingers crossed 🤞

Living with someone with bowel and kidney issues its not a big deal to me, he wets himself a lot, during the day too. If you want to be extra safe for the sake of mattress, puppy pads on top, under sheet. Hopefully its nothing to worry about and maybe he was just in a very deep sleep. X

I thought my ds had wet the bed, turned out he had really bad night sweats. Are you sure it was urine

We knew it was him, not me because he was wet and I was dry! ( I was wearing long pyjama bottoms, they were bone dry) plus the wet patch was directly under him on his side of the bed. There's no doubt.....the smell gave it away Blush

This happened to my friends son-in-law - it was connected to a back problem and its happened to my DH - many years ago, never since, unexplained. BUT - It's not normal so get him to go to GP for some blood tests.

Does he get his prostate checked? He should ask at his GP appointment.

My dad had this issue and it was rated to prostate.

Oh dear. Yes pretty convincing evidence that it was him. Sweat can smell like urine but I guess it was focused around his bottom half too. I think he needs to see the GP asap in case there is something going on. Wishing you both well.

OP my dh did that once!! Practically the exact same story. I was worried but he said he had been dreaming of needing the loo. Anyway...long story short he asked his dad (a retired doctor) and his advise was if it happens again go to see the gp. Otherwise, take it as a once off. It didn’t happen again!! (Thank god)

Happened to me too. Had a toilet dream and didn't wake up before the end like normal. Happened a few years back hasn't happened again.

Thanks all. If it happens again or he has any other symptoms he'll be straight to the GP. All signs pointing to a one off for now so fingers crossed.
