Really bad itchy flaky scalp

He has really bad red itchy flaky scalp. Has tried medicated shampoos (nizarol, capsal, etc) which help for a day or two. Tried apple cider vinegar felt like it really dried his scalp.

He has been to gp who prescribed betacap but he doesn't feel it helps.

Does anyone have any suggestions as it's really getting him down

I don’t know why mine suddenly started but My head was thick and itchy with dandruff. Nizorel has almost cleared it up but after 4 months of using I still have a few really stubborn sore patches. I’m guessing it might not be dandruff then?
Head & shoulders, T gel, Nizorel......
Will try some of the other suggestions given here & see if I can get rid of it and finally book a hair cut. Too embarrassed at the moment.

Sounds like scalp psoriasis. Has he not seen a doctor?
