Upper wisdom tooth giving me jip...

Anyone had one removed, or had pain that went away on its own?

I have an appt tomorrow but I'm not sure if I'm being overdramatic about it. How much of your mouth is meant to swell up with wisdoms?

Tell me your stories.

Had a top one out a few months ago, top wisdoms are really easy to remove, two twists and it was out it took seconds. If it's causing problems have it out, the dentist said that top wisdoms are quite useless and we don't really need them and have to admit I don't miss it at all.
The key to it healing well after extraction is to rinse every couple of hours with salt water and you should have no problems.

Okay, that's really reassuring thank you!

What sort of problems did it give you before removel?

I had a lower wisdom tooth removed in August last year. Piece of cake, the dentist was amazing and was done super quick. I speak as someone who hates dentists and gets quite anxious at appointments.

That's good to know too. How painful was yours before removal? Did you have to get it looked at first, and book a second appt for removal?

I didn't really have any problems but had some decay and the dentist said it would be easier and less painful to remove it rather than fill it.

Mine isn't even erupted. It's just killing me. My face is puffy, my cheek feels tight and it's swollen across into the roof of my mouth. Sore throat too down that side Sad

I've had all four of mine out under general at the hospital due to constant infections and them not being able to come in without problems. Having them out was the best thing I ever did!
The pain of the recurring infections was horrendous and sounds like yours may be! It took me multiple dentist visits over a period of month including emergency ones for them to put me forward for the surgery. Then I was waiting 18 months to have it (whilst still getting infections and being in pain).
You can get co-coadamol over the counter from a pharmacy to ease the pain for a few days whilst it's bad. That's what I had to do as nothing else worked. Also clove oil is meant to be really good.

The dentist will do an x-ray to see where they are and if they're coming in correctly or not.
Make sure each time you have a problem to go to the dentist and make it clear you cannot cope with the level of discomfort/pain. You'll be wanting it (or all of them) removed if it keeps happening.

Best of luck!!!

Thank you. This is my first rodeo with proper wisdom pain and yours sounds horrible... looks like I'll be in for the long haul!

My wisdom teeth are all slightly skewy and resistant to coming through fully. They seem to progress then recede again causing a lot of irritation in the process and have been doing this for 20 years now. I used to get regular infections with them but now start the salt washes and fastidious brushing of particular tooth the second it starts to hurt.

I had a top one removed by my dentist around ten years ago but unlike others here, I'm afraid to say it was a bit of an ordeal and didn't come out very easily and I went very faint afterwards (which I'm not prone to!). Given this, if they want to take any more out I'll be insisting they have the lot under GA.

Yikes! Okay. Appt in half an hour. Will report back.

She poked it. Pus came out. I have antibiotics. These antibiotics don't allow me to drink. She warned me it might feel worse before it gets better and omg she was right.

I'm on the list for removal, but the tooth in front rather than the actual wisdom.
