Excuse me for asking about the smell of my wee

In the last couple of weeks my wee has suddenly started smelling weird. Sort of rich, reminds me of fondue but not quite. It's a very strong smell, whereas I never normally notice any smell when I wee. I have no itch, no discharge, no discomfort. It makes no difference whether or not I am well-hydrated. I'm in my 50s, on HRT, and overweight.

Does suddenly smelly wee signify anything?

The sugar puff smell is after coffee.

Dilbertian · 05/01/2020 18:23

Good lord, imagine if I was pregnant...and what I think is holiday fat - is something else!

It's not the Vitamin B smell (I know that one, and haven't been talking vit B anyway).

I don't drink coffee.

Not taking any meds other than HRT.

Interesting.

I think it's an odour related to the menopause and fluctuating hormones.

Helpimfalling · 05/01/2020 19:29

@Crochetnanigans

omg as I started to read this thread I recalled a few times when my wee smelt of sugar puffs and then low and behold I read your comment

Well hello wee twin 😬😆

Helpimfalling · 05/01/2020 19:30

Oh dear lord it's all of our wee smelling of sugar puffs wow

missmouse101 · 05/01/2020 19:33

Mine occasionally smells like bleach, which is weird too!

WhoisitnowRalph · 05/01/2020 19:36

Speaking as someone who has had a great many UTI's over the years, if all standard reasons for weird odours can be discounted I'd say its an infection.

When my repeated infections were at their peak, and even though I had no specific pain or burning (maybe a dull ache in my bladder), my poor DH said he could smell it in the bedroom from the en suite. Blush

It is a strangely, erm, cheesy odour. I would suggest plenty of fluids (water) and pop a sample into your surgery tomorrow?

Good luck, hope you work it out or the odour disappears!

Oh yeah, sugar puffs = coffee.

I totally didn't know sugar puff wee was a thing other people get too. I think I am more likely to get it when dehydrated.

TroysMammy · 05/01/2020 21:20

Funnily enough I think black coffee smells of sugar puffs. Do you drink your coffee black?

Seaweed42 · 05/01/2020 23:11

Have you been eating any crisps or savoury snacks.
Chickatees make your wee smell similar the next day.

katewhinesalot · 05/01/2020 23:15

Is your smear test up to date? That was my only symptom of my cervical cancer. Caught it early thank goodness.

SubordinateThatClause · 06/01/2020 22:32

Sugar puffs after drinking coffee here! Not sure that helps you op!

ParsleyPot · 06/01/2020 23:21

Well, this thread has certainly put me off eating sugar puffs ever again. Blush
