11 month dd spots on face - why?

TaraQ · 27/08/2007 14:15

My 11 month old daughter has developed little red spots/pimples on her face - mainly around her chin and bottom of her cheeks and nose. Why and what can I do to get rid of them? She has had them for over a week now and they show no sign of going. I am only using water to wipe her mouth and I have ruled out (I think) any food allergies. Maybe it could be teething (she has got a few teeth coming through now) but she has never had this before with any of her other teeth coming through. Has anyone else experienced this?

Could it be a dribble rash? Is she dribbling more due to teething perhpas

TaraQ · 27/08/2007 17:19

That was one thought of mine but it is right up on her cheeks too - surely dribble can't affect right up there??!! Maybe I will take her to GP - after all, that is what we pay our taxes for right??!!

the other thing it could be is infantile excema.

What did the doctor say Tara?

ds has very similar (he's 2.2) and it started a few months ago. GP reckons it is infantile ezcema. They look like little spots - as in zits really.

What did the doc say?

TaraQ · 29/08/2007 13:33

Hello! Doc asked if she has tried any new foods but I said that she hasn't really. She said that it could be raleted to teething or it could be ezcema related. She gave me a prescription for hydrous ointment - just thick acqueous cream really - and told be to slap it on as often as possible. I'm hoping that it will work. 24 hours later there doesn't seem to be much of a difference but I guess it might take a few days to work. She said if it doesn't work she will try a mild steroid. Boo64 it is just like you said - little spots really. I'll keep you updated!!!......Oh the joys of motherhood!!....

By the way boo64, what has your doc prescribed your ds??

He gave him a weak steroid cream (hydrocortisone) and an emolient cream.
The cream did very little to clear the spots up so I use the steroid cream occasionally and very sparingly if the spots get bad. But since I have stopped using standard suncream and wipes he rarely gets it now(he has to wear a hat all the time when it is sunny - thank goodness the weather has been so bad on that front!)

Yes her spots sound the same as his don't they. They don't itch him or bother him at all.

Have you used any sun cream on her face recently? With ds that seemed to be the number one culprit - plus I had to stop using wipes for ages. I've since just tried Nature ones and they seem ok so far - tried Earth Friendly too but they caused the same problem as the others.
