Can sinuses cause sleeplessness?

I haven’t even got any pain or anything just a bit of pressure and my sinuses feel full (not my nose but behind eyebrows etc...) but it makes me RESTLESS and driving me crazy at night. I have always slept well and had no problems at all with sleep, but for the past week I have slept about 4 hours or less per night (not even in a row). It freaks me out.
Any thoughts on this?

I think usually it makes you sleepier. What are you asking for it? Sometimes meds can keep you up.

Yes. Take a decongestant and do a steam inhalation at least twice a day. If you’ve already been doing this then see your doctor.

Try the NHS sinus rinse solution several times a day. And have night nurse about 20 minutes before you go to bed. That stuff saved my sanity during sinusitis last time!

Thank you so much. I haven’t been to the doctor’s yet as I thought my sinusitis was over because I no longer have a stuffy nose and nothing comes out when I blow. However it does feel congested deeper inside if that make sense and it feels like it’s ‘stuck” or dry or something.

I tried a decongestant last night which made things ten times worse (I guess it dried it out some more) and I actually felt wheezy. The situation seems to improve when I drink a large glass of water and sleep slightly propped up.

It’s really frightening especially because it only happens at night and when I do fall asleep the quality of sleep is rubbish and I wake up every couple of hours with terrible nightmares.

It doesn’t affect the day as such apart from a slight discomfort and a feeling of fullness/pressure and heat around my sinuses. I bought some saline nose rinse which I’m going to try today and I am going to book a GP appointment although I anticipate that they will just give me some decongestant and sleeping pills.

I’ve always had dodgy sinuses but this insomnia is a new one! I spend the whole day exhausted.

The nightmares are because your body temp is raised trying to fight off infection. Last time I went to GP about my sinuses he said antibiotics don't work on them as it's mostly viral.

This is my fifth awful night in a row (4 broken hours sleep in total) and I’m freaking out that my sleep will never get back to normal. I’ve gone from someone who falls asleep in ten minutes and sleeps deeply throughout the night feeling refreshed to someone who appears to have a sleep disorder. I feel like I’m going mad and dread bedtime. I guess the lack of sleep doesn’t help me to feel positive.

I was really wheezy and gasping for air this morning and coughed up a bit of phlegm (gross) so it looks like there’s something going on with my chest as well.

www.amazon.co.uk/LIVIVO-Facial-Steamer-Aromatherapy-Diffuser/dp/B01M0G9MFP/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?keywords=livivo+facial+spa+steamer&sprefix=livivo&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1577709045&sr=8-4

I use this facial steamer. You could use a bowl of boiled water but this things kicks out continuous steam and I do it for 15 min sessions. It helps chest too. I put a couple of drops of eucalyptus in it too.

If you’re chesty you need an expectorant mixture for chesty coughs even if you’re not yet coughing.

That steamer looks amazing! It looks like it does your skin some good too. Kill 2 birds.
I almost wish I had a full blown cold and chesty cough rather than feeling s..t without obvious symptoms. At least I would feel like I’m getting rid of something. I felt shivery last night too and my ears kept making a popping sound. I’m getting post nasal drips too but not much.

My house is very well insulated and the heating is very efficient but I suspect there isn’t much humidity in the air so that steamer will be invaluable.

Yes good for skin. And yes ears and nose connected. I’ve had problems with blocked both. Drink lots of water.

👍 thanks that’s really helpful.
