Cradle Cap, should I treat it or will it go away on its own?

DS2, now 13 weeks seems to have developed slight cradle cap (or at least that is what my mother says it is), it just looks like he hasn't had the shampoo washed out of his hair properly, but I know this isn't the case. There is hardly any of it and I just wondered if it would go away on its own if I left it or does it always need treatment?

I would use Olive Oil on it but as he has his bath with DS1 at night, I would need to bath DS2 again in the morning to wash the oil off and in that case if it would go away on its own I would rather just leave it.

TIA for any help.

you can get all the loose bits out with a plastic nit comb. i bath my ds2 with e45 bath as he has excema and did wonders for his cradle cap as well.

Hi all - first time poster. My babe (14 weeks) has had quite bad cradle cap for the past 3 weeks. At first it wasn't too bad, just a patch on the top of her head, and we tried to treat it with Dentinox cradle cap shampoo for a week or so, this did nothing to help and it was getting worse, so the clinic suggested rubbing in Olive Oil. I was told that if it was left, cradle cap will not go away on its own. Rubbing in the oil, leaving it overnight and washing off in the morning seemed to hold it off for a while and gentle brushing with a soft brush each day brought off the loose skin - I was told not to pick the skin off if they were not ready to fall off in case an infection set in (tempting though it is). One day last week we woke up and babe's skin looked like a lizards and it had travelled right down her forehead to her eyebrows overnight. The doctor prescribed a very mild hydrquarterzone cream which I have been putting on twice a day for a week and washing her hair with an infant eczema shampoo - it has almost dissapeared now. if it is really bad and the cradle cap shampoo or oil isnt working visit your doctor before it gets too bad. Good luck :0)

I have a thing about picking cradle cap, lol, its strangely soothing...

However, DS has it, and has had it since he was a couple of weeks old, i've been combing and picking for months, but it keeps coming on back.

I've tried that Dentinox shampoo and its flaking loose like a dream, we're down to about 10% coverage now! yay!

We haven't tried Dentinox as we use infaderm all the time now. My lo used to have quite bad cradle cap and as her hair is very dark it was quite obvious. I know it doesn't seem to bother them at all but I was still very keen to get rid of it. All of the specially medicated shampoos sounded too harsh for her scalp, but we're really pleased with how the infaderm shampoo has cleared it up.
