Off Balance

Just wondered if anyone has felt off balance all the time for a long period of time and found out cause and ideally cure.

Been feeling off balance 24/7 - like on a boat in a storm - for just over 2 years now. Had brain MRI and just showed mini-stroke which they don't think causes balance issues. I'm due a spine MRI but no spine pain so I'm expecting it to be clear. Neurologist said spine MRI could explain everything but I doubt it will.

Mid 40s, worse in periods though bad all the time. I fail quite a few of the neurological tests and they got clonus x4 this time as well. Don't really get headaches or hearing issues. Came on suddenly at time I was getting loads of infections, mainly bladder. After 9 months of constant infections put on long-term double antibiotics and infections symptoms went but balance never has come back. I am an anxious person so it's possible it's that but its constant and severe and normally if I get an anxiety symptom its temporary and goes within an hour or so and I am aware I'm anxious. Particularly bad when going from sitting to standing - I will sometimes just collapse, can get up again. I also struggle to wake and my DD says I'm only half there and only seem to hear half the words. Drinking industrial quantities of water helps. Heat makes it worse.

Not sure anyone will have been through the same but just on the off chance. Doctor diagnosed ME which is possible. Brain scan showed no sign of MS.

Spine scan might show cervical disk degeneration. This could explain loss of balance. Just a thought.

I had this in my mid 40s. Very oddly, it was down to the perimenopause. It's almost all gone now I'm officially menopausal.

It was very disturbing.

Thanks very much. Will be interesting to see if MRI shows anything.

Would be good if it is perimenopause and just goes with menopause. I wouldn't be amazed if there's a hormone part to it.

Could it be down to your ears? I know you have had an MRI but perhaps inflammation at certain points is causing the balance issues??

I occasionally need stemetil for flare ups and this really helps!!

Thanks very much. I don't think it's from the ears, at least never any pain or infections.

Had spine MRI today and blood tests TSH and B12 - don't think they will show anything but will see. Don't have follow up until March though so sometime to wait.
