First port of call (HV or GP) with concerns about ds (almost 3) legs/stance/over pronouncing

Have noticed it before that ds is walking 'funny' i.e. legs look like knees knock and then from knee downward they're bend outwards, walking with emphasis on inner side of foot. Wasnt worried too much so far but today as it's hot and he's runnign around the house starkers it's very obvious and he seems to be rolling inwards particularly on his left foot.

Question to the mn panel... go see HV first or straight to GP?

Ds doesn't seem to have any problems running around like a loonatic but I tought I better err on the side of caution to prevent potential future problems.

when i was worried about ds walking I approached hv first who tried to reassure me but said to go to gp if still worried. So did that then got refered to paed. Is that any help? you could just cut out middle man though i suppose?

MerlinsBeard · 25/08/2007 17:00

make an appt for your GP and see HV in the m,eantime. i know how hard it is to get appt for Drs lol!

crokky · 25/08/2007 17:02

Go to GP in order to get referral to paed.

HV waste of time IME!

MrsBigD · 25/08/2007 19:36

Thank you shall call gp on Tuesday. Our surgery is actually quite good with appointments. The referrals are the problem... waiting times are horrid... but who knows might be better for kids' stuff than grown ups??? I know the eternal optimist

The word you're looking for with regard to your ds's feet is pronating (just so you don't make a fool of yourself in front of the GP) .

Sounds like your ds has genu valgus aka knock knees, really is quite common in infants as are dropped arches (flat feet). If you are worried best to see GP who will be able to either reassure you or refer on to paeds.

thanks slubber English isn't my mother tongue so I think I shall be forgiven some wrong vocabulary

, well if you go into the GP and say "I have concerns about my sons feet, I think they may be over pronating. I am also concerned about his genu valgus" then the GP is going to think you are
a)medical
b)very well informed!

I would probably stick to flat feet and knock knees

all kids over pronate until the pelvis closes. I think this happens between 3 and 4. In the meantime yu could go and see a private podiatrist - costs between 20 and 30 quid.

I have a congenital bone deformity in both feet that the DSs may inherit - podiatrist said to bring them between 3 and 4.

thanks everybogy

I had insoles as a kid and hated them so really want to save ds from needing them...

never thought about a podiatrist... shall check that out locally. thanks highlander. my dad has extremely high arches with almost every bone having been broken at one time or another... but I have flat feet... dh's are pretty flat too but that might be his weight ... guessing 'flat' is dominant...
