Hearing heartbeat in your head / pulsatile tinnitus

For the last two months I’ve heard my heart beat in my right ear at night, plus I experience a kind of wooshing sensation (no pain) and the heart beating noise if I move my head suddenly.

GP referred me to an ENT consultant who ordered MRIs which I had last Friday. I won’t get the results until after Christmas and have made the mistake of googling and now I’m absolutely convinced that I’ll need major surgery and I’m absolutely petrified. (I have two toddlers with SEN, and very little support, which is adding to my panic).

Can anybody share any positive experiences about pulsatile tinnitus? Has it gone away in its own or been treating without surgery?

Hey I suffer from this but I am also deaf.
ENT referred me to see another Audiologist and they gave me new hearing aids which helped with balance etc . They also did a manoeuvre which somehow helped (it was horrible when they did it and made me sick but the long term effect is amazing ). Hope that helps x

I had this following an ear infection when the eardrum perforated it did settle after a few months

Glad I’m not alone! Hohopo, I would get it checked out as it can indicate vascular problems. I was surprised how seriously the doctors have taken it - had assumed it was nothing to worry about.

Itsemily, they did test my hearing but it was fine.

I get this fixed in under an hour with acupuncture. I get it because of phlegm in my ears. The needles just open channels that make my ears drain. Immediately. Job done. Until I get the cold again. Fifty quid a go. I feel it’s totally worth it. Doesn’t hurt.

I had this during pregnancy. It went away once the baby was delivered. I assume it was blood pressure related.

I’ve had it for years and years, it’s never got any worse and sometimes I’m not aware of it - sometimes get it if I feel stressed

I get this on and off all the time. I think for me it’s either medication dependant or depends on my blood pressure. I never realised it could be so serious.

I get this on & off, I also suffer from ordinary tinnitus as well as having super sensitive hearing ( I can hear electricity in walls) I have been told that some of this is due to autism.

Vit B12 deficiency

I get this. Mine is B12 deficiency.

I get it now and again. I thought it was just "one of those things" so haven't had it checked. To be fair, it only lasts for about half an hour at the most.

I notice this more when I’m overweight? I thought it was to do with BP being higher than optimal.

Do you have headaches or pain when you stand up/bend? If so it could be Intercranial Hypertension, which is grim but treatable. There are lots of less serious causes though.

I get this occasionally, always at night. I never knew I should get it checked out 😳

Rufus27 how did it go? I have ent on monday for this. Been getting it since may, freaking me out.

Saw ENT who ordered MRIs and said there was a possibility it could be a small benign tumour near my ear. As it happened, MRI was clear but ENT wanted me to see a cardiologist. They think it could be related to my blood pressure (which is very low) so I’m waiting for an appointment.

It just seemed to disappear over time. That said, it occasionally returns around the time of my period. I’m convinced it’s hormonal, crazy though that sounds!

Not crazy at all, I’ve seen people talking about pre menstrually etc so seems legit
