Armpit pain... Been referred and scared

Hi has anyone suffered similar?

For the past 12 months I have felt the occasional pinching /pulling pain on the area between my left breast and my arm pit. It comes and goes but no pattern to it. It's got worse lately, with a shoulder ache, my breasts are very lumpy as they are fibro cystic. Been to the gp who wasn't that concerned about the arm pain but said she could feel a thickened area at the base of my breast where it joins my ribs. I can't say if it's always been like that or not. She's referred me to the breast clinic and I'm going on Friday.
I am absolutely terrified and I've convinced myself it's bad and there's something in my lymph nodes under my arm. There are no swellings or lumps but the whole area and my breasts feel like bags of frozen peas so it's impossible to tell but they hurt if you press on them. I suffer from terrible health anxiety, I'm 35 with 2 little ones and I'm crying every day whilst I wait for the appointment that I've got cancer and going to die and leave them. And it's Xmas too. Please can anyone talk some sense into me

Just to add the pinching pain is in a line from the top of my breast to the bottom on the outer edge where it joins my chest

I was referred to a breast clinic with what turned out to be fibrocystic breasts. I'm over 40 so had a mammogram and ultrasound scan but given your age I would think that you wouldn't have the mammogram.

The consultant said that the gps send everyone to the clinic even with the slightest thing just to be sure and that 90% of clinic attenders get the all clear.

I was so stressed I could barely look at my ds so I can relate to what you say. I know it is Christmas and the last thing you need is this now but it is best to get it checked. I do hope you get the all clear on Friday.

By the way the lump I originally found had disappeared by the time of my appointment but the GP had identified another lump which felt normal for me.

Abnormal lymph nodes are 1cm plus so you’d feel it if it was your lymph nodes

Sounds to me like you could just have a fatty lump.
GPs have a set criteria they use to refer you so even if they think you’re absolutely fine, if you fit that criteria, it’s best practice to refer you anyway. That doesn’t mean they think you’re ill!

I spent this afternoon having a mammogram and ultrasound.
I ended up having a few cysts drained due to the size. I have never been so scared in my entire life.
The chances are it's all going to be ok.

Glad you're okay poor. WineFlowers

Our minds just go into overdrive don't they. And I think any health scare just shows you how fragile life actually is

I realised that I don't handle any stress well after my health scare and have tried hard to manage my stress responses. It's normal to feel nervous about a health check. Can you bring someone with you on Friday?
