Another ironing accident...

This time I pulled the iron back towards me, just a bit too far, and ssssss went my bare stomach. I now have a livid scar about 4 inches across it, at the tightening stage.

I did the right thing - laid down with a bag of frozen peas on it for 20 mins, but 3 days on it's really nasty. I'm using Bio-oil. Any recommendations as to how I can speed healing up?

I have an ironing accident about every 6 months. Guess I am just not cut out for it...

Have you been to the doctor? Looking nasty doesn't sound good. Possible infection?

You poor thing. No more ironing for you. Ever.

No I don't think infected, it's just a nasty burn. Burns from steam irons are always bad and usually scars (speaking from my extensive experience). I just want to minimise the scarring and speed it up if possible.

Told DH I am going to pay somebody to do the ironing, because of the safety issues!

I had a burn just like that on my knee from ironing! I was young and stupid. I'd bought an iron for my first house, but forgot the ironing board, so I used to do it on the floor on a towel. Getting reading for work, rushing, ironing in my undies an I ironed my knee! I can still see the faint scar now, if I have a really hot bath and that was about 17 years ago!

Weird thing is my mum loves ironing, she even irons socks and stuff like that. She doesn't iron tights or bras but they're the only exceptions. The ironing gene has definitely bypassed me though.

And she has NEVER burnt herself with an iron.

owwwww.

Ah aloe vera, of course! Thanks KM. Will purchase tomorrow. Is calendula what you use when you get sore nips during breasfeeding? Vague memory of buying it with DS1.

Maureen, can't believe you ironed your knee! Even stranger I can't believe that I haven't iron my knee yet. As it is only a matter of time I think I better look into outsourcing the ironing asap.

I keep an aloe vera plant on the kitchen windowsill for just such accidents. Rip a leaf off, open it up to expose the fleshy inside and rub over burnt bit. Leaves a green mark, but really soothing and helps healing.

lulumama · 24/08/2007 15:22

i burn myself almost every time i iron! i managed to burn my bump when i was ironing a shirt, when 9 months pregnant.

will buy an aloe vera plant i think, i will get good use out of it !

glad it;s not just me, your burn sounds awful spiker, poor you

FoghornLeghorn · 24/08/2007 15:37

I have just finished about 3 hours work of ironing and miraculously have no injuries, I usually do

Budababe · 24/08/2007 15:45

Don't think you should be using the bio-oil yet - not till skin has healed. Is it a scab? I think you need to wait till the scab has gone before using any oil type thing.

Lavender oil is very good for scarring as is pure vit e oil. Lavender particularly good for burns.

lizziemun · 24/08/2007 16:27

I did last time when i was pregnant, it tooks ages to heal. I think it's taken about 2 years to fade.

I now only seem to burn my arm on the oven shelves. I'v stopped ironing now should i stop cooking as well .
