Hi,

I wonder if anyone has been in a similar situation or can offer some advice.

I went for an eye test and the optician said there was problems with the optic nerve in both eyes. They said it needed an urgent referral to the hospital and to take a letter to the GP. I have been to the GP and the doctors surgery have referred it but my appointment isn’t until early February.

I just wondered if it was normal to wait this long and also what the issue could be? I’m very scared that it could be something serious.

Sat watching I went into the eye casualty department for my referral and was seen and examined by two consultants who both came to the same conclusion that after dilating my eyes with so many drops and looking with a slit lamp and microscopes that it was entirely normal for me. Apparently some people are born with halos around their optical nerves and it is completely benign and of no concern. Every optician since has spotted it on my retinal photographs and has said that it does happen in a number of cases. Also idiopathic hypertension can happen with no significant cause of it is that and it is easily treatable my niece has had that

@Flupibass

May I ask what your husband's outcome was?
