What do you know about 5g and the Internet of Things?

Hi everyone,

I have been around on mumsnet for many years. This will be a long post but I urge you to read it and decide for yourselves. I am sharing this on here as most I assume who read this are parents. A little bit of background on me, I am a nurse with over 20 years experience, and also currently studying to become a natropathic nutritional therapist. I have 2 children and like most parents, try to do the best for them. I am not a conspiracy theorist. I am just mum who cares about humanity.

My health has not been great the last few years (recurrent infections, fatigue, brain fog, poor memory, mood changes, 2 cancer scares etc). Whilst these can be attributed to a lot of things (mainly a very difficult breakdown of a long term relationship and all that comes with that), I started to consider the impact of electro magnetic field radiation on my health. This documentary explains why this is important.

This has certainly impacted on me and I feel I have to share it and spread the word. Up until recently I would have been a bit dubious of people talking about electro magnetic field sensitivity. I am not a lunatic in a tin foil hat.

I realised I was sat in front of my wifi connected computer for many hours a day for work and study, then sat in my living room about 2m away from my wifi router at night. The kids have tablets and a PS4, not to mention my smart phone (kids don't have phones aged 12 and 8). I started to get tingling in my hands when holding my phone or on my laptop. I started to get eye strain. I was not sleeping well at all. I could almost feel the electrosmog we are surrounded with.

I started researching, and what I found has radically changed the way I feel about tech. I am not a heavy user of tech compared to some, I was always conscious about the social impact of device use and limiting the kids time on tech. But I was more concerned about what they were looking at, watching, playing than the mode of how it was delivered.

I have learnt a lot recently about epigenetics, how our envioment, lifestyle and diet affect the way our genes express themselves and ultimately lead to chronic disease. What you eat, where you live, who you interact with, when you sleep, how you exercise, even aging – all of these can eventually cause chemical modifications around the genes that will turn those genes on or off over time. Additionally, in certain diseases such as cancer or Alzheimer’s, various genes will be switched into the opposite state, away from the normal/healthy state. See more about epigenetics here: www.theguardian.com/science/occams-corner/2014/apr/25/epigenetics-beginners-guide-to-everything

One of the factors I have learnt that can affect our DNA and how genes express themselves is electro magnetic field radiation exposure (EMF). Our earth is now bathed in so much EMF we are exposed to hundreds and thousands times more EMF than even 50 years ago. Russain scientists knew this way back in the 1970s. There is now evidence that EMF can be linked to infertility, insomina, anxiety, depression, cancer, autoimmune diesease etc. However there is also research, funded by the telcom agencies that EMF at current levels are safe. Safety levels that were established way before smart phones, smart watches, smart baby monitors etc.

There is a huge push at the moment to rush out 5g technology which will operate at levels 10-100 times stronger than we are currently exposed to at 4g. And it has not been tested. The wave forms will be pulsed, and antenas will have to be spaced 100 m apart, and potentially outside your bedroom. They are already installing these across the country (cutting trees down to do so). The Americans are "leading the race". This video explains how greed is pushing the direction, without any consideration of how this will effect us, the planet and all that live here.

We already know bee and insect populations have been dying out since 4g became more available. We know there are cancer clusters around phone masts. Thousands of scientists and health professionals are joining force to try and have at the very least strict standands and research before this is rolled out. Some areas in the UK are halting the roll out until more information is provided by the government to prove it is safe. But it is already live in some areas. www.5gspaceappeal.org/the-appeal

The justification for all this: to enable the Internet of Things. Driverless cars, faster download speeds, connectivity, and the birth of artificial intelligance. Eventually they want to beam 5g down from space bathing us in non ionising radiation at levels never ever tested. With so many peole connected to devices this could be catastrophic for the earth and our enviroment. www.space.com/5g-in-space-internet-satellites.html

One day I realised that all of a sudden, without much consideration to health impacts, everywhere has wifi. On buses,in cafes, in homes, in hospitals etc and it snuck up on us without realising because we welcome the convenience. I will be the first to admit I was sucked along by this and the ease my smart phone brings and wifi tech. Most people now have smart phones and 4g is everywhere (think back 10 years). 5g is coming soon (and already is rolled out in some areas but not yet switched on to its full capacity).

Current safety levels for mobile phones were tested on 1g and 2g, and were not tested on real humans. They were tested on a foam artifical head with no biology. In addition to this they were tested on a head based upon the average head size of a US military personell. Not a child, not a female, but members of the US army. These levels have not been adjusted since the introduction of 2g/3g/4g and 5g. If you go to your smart phone (legal settings) it actually tells you not to hold it to you head, or your body.

5g will use much higher frequencies than we currently use with 4g. These have not been tested for the effect they have on humans and their cellular biology. There is a lot of evidence about dna mutation (and cancer) and neuropsychiatric changes in mice and rats. The WHO has classed EMF radiation in the same carcinogen group as asbestos and smoke polution. There are calls for it, as new evidence has arisen to class it as a direct class 1 carcinogen (and that is at current levels). 5g-emf.com/urgent-warning-media-release-ontario-doctors-warn-of-rising-health-care-costs-after-5g-roll-out/?fbclid=IwAR0X8owPF-PELcc-uc4APo1rB_0e7v5Aq-hG8tqCUhbVl29HyQodqXsT1Ss

One of the points that convinced me that this is harmful is that Lloyds of London (insurance) have exlcuded EMF related illness from their policies. We need to think why that is. I think its because they know its unsafe and they predict this will be a major factor in ill health in the future if not already. www.jrseco.com/wp-content/uploads/Insurance-AE-CFC-Underwriting-Limited-Lloyds-Latest-Version-February-7th-2015.pdf?fbclid=IwAR0pPSOMcvbB (exclusion 32)

What can you do to help limit the impact it has on us, our children and the enviroment?

  1. Go wired. My router had wifi enabled all the time. I learnt I can diasble my wifi and use ethernet cables to connect to my devices. Now my laptop, phone and the kids devices are all connected via wires. No wifi in the house at all. I got rid of my smart phone and will not be buying anymore "smart tech". My eldest could do with a phone as he enters teenage years. We have agreed he can have his tablet at home or when he needs it out and about, and use the Nokia 3310 as a hotspot if needed or use wires. You can buy adapters for most devices that allow you to plug in to your intenet. For example an iphone, you simply plug in the adpater and put the phone into aeroplane mode and it works like a tablet. You can also go to settings and turn your smart phones down to 2g.
  1. If you dont or cant do that at the very least turn wifi off when not using it, especially at night.
  1. Leave phones away form the bedside at night or into aeroplane mode. Reconsider all your smart appliances, turn off blutooth. All emit EMF radiation.
  1. Speak to your schools about wifi in classrooms, do they need it? www.facebook.com/ouvronslesyeuxcom/videos/577631516319704/UzpfSTEwMDAwMDQ0NzQ5ODU3NjpWSzo0NTAxNDAxOTU4Nzg5OTg/
  1. Do not hold the phone to your head if you can help it, use
headphones (not wireless) or put on loud speaker, or go back to a wired landline.
  1. There are lots of local groups being set up about this subject, and local councils are the first place to go to about concerns about 5g. Essentially this roll out contravenes the Nuremberg code, and is a mass experiment. They said asbestos was safe, they said tobacco was safe, they said DDT was safe (amongst other things). Current levels of exposire are not safe, and will be even more dangerous when 5g is rolled out. Does the balance of a driverless care on our health weigh up?

If you decide to look into this for yourselves you will find some people are calling this a silent war, are suggesting its to do with depopulation and UN Agenda 21. People are focused on surveilance and control. I do not wish to get dragged into all that. What I know if at the moment we can try limit the impact and we can fight to halt the roll out of 5g. If you got this far, thanks for reading. I have tons of peer reviewed studies and links if anyone wants more info.

Global stop 5g day will be on the 25th Jan 2020. www.facebook.com/groups/548912049259423/ We can do something about this.

Woah, is there a reader's digest condensed version?

SquareSausages · 06/12/2019 18:36

Naturopathic nutritional therapist, actually. Its all very much based in science.

It's about as scientific as astrology or dianetics.

nldnmum · 06/12/2019 18:58

OP I'm sorry to say but it sounds like while going through a difficult period of your life in terms of health, you've turned to conspiracy theories as a way to deal with health and maybe existential anxieties. Thinking that this is the cause of your health problems give you a(n ill-conceived understanding) of the reason of your suffering and therefore making you feel like you are somewhat in control (if only you got rid of it, your life and health will be better). The conspiracy theories might have also given you a sense of belonging and specialness of being part of the group of people who knows the "truth", hence the need to "spread the word".

Much sympathies to your health conditions OP but I think you are going about addressing your difficulties in the wrong way.

Witchend · 06/12/2019 20:04

I am not a lunatic in a tin foil hat.
You're right there. Try and find one and see if they can install some common sense in you.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 06/12/2019 22:48

I am a nurse with over 20 years experience

I hope you are not a UK registered nurse, given your reading of the “science” and your disregard for the code of conduct.

OzonePint · 07/12/2019 10:39

I suggest you go live in a dark tin foil lined room. You'll be safe in there.

Bunnyfuller · 08/12/2019 23:36

Please move this to AIBU, please. It’s Christmas. Go on. Please.

Ignoring the rest of the crazy, what's the point in having a mobile phone if it has to be plugged into Ethernet all the time?

sallybeare · 19/12/2019 15:17

Hi @pudding21. Please ignore the trolls on here making puerile and insulting comments. This happens every time anyone posts on the subject of RF-EMR anywhere on social media and presumably it is industry astroturfers doing so because anybody who spends more than an hour looking at the scientific research from emeritus professors and independent experts who have spent years and decades studying the bioeffects of radio frequency EMR from mobile devices, masts and routers knows that it is extremely bad for health. That's why Wi-Fi has been banned in French primary schools now, for example, with secondary schools advised to switch it off when not in use or wire it in; that's why Oregon has just passed a bill declaring Wi-Fi in schools a health emergency. The people who use tired 'tinfoil hat' language, whoever they might possibly be, do not have one single study to show that this stuff is safe. That's because there isn't one. There are however many thousands of studies show it to damage DNA and cause neuroeffects, infertility and more. All anyone has to do is look on Pub Med where all the peer-reviewed science is published and enter 'RF-EMR' and you will see. Then there are the huge recent studies from the US National Toxicology Program and Ramazzini Cancer Research Institute. The reason this is not more widely-known is because a) industry works hard to obfuscate the true science, b) governments and public health bodies such as PHE do the same (just look at how AGNIR was disbanded after Dr Sarah Starkey's evidence to Westminster, but then was quietly re-formed as COMARE), and c) the mainstream media do not report on it because their pages are full of telecoms ads. The local papers are reporting, and nine councils in the UK are calling for bans on 5G. The movement is growing everywhere, supported by many doctors and experts. EH Trust and Bioinitiative.org as well as SSITA who are doctors campaigning for safe tech in schools are all excellent, evidence-based resources.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 19/12/2019 15:28

Oh look, another poster who posts about nothing else. 🙄

And somehow others are the trolls for disagreeing.

sallybeare · 19/12/2019 16:46

Here is an attorney talking about the facts and the cover-up, and see also Frank Clegg, former head of Microsoft, and the Ontario Physicians for Safe Tech. For the non-trolls here who are interested in real science, and who care about their children and wildlife.

namechanged984630 · 19/12/2019 19:15

The WHO's own website says 5G is not a cause for health concerns Confused it doesn't say it's in the same category as smoking at all

AutumnRose1 · 19/12/2019 19:24

I read this expecting a different thread.

I’m more puzzled about why the Internet of Things is considered a good thing. I’d be interested to hear views on that.

CoteDAzur · 20/12/2019 08:52

"Here is an attorney talking about the facts and the cover-up"

An ATTORNEY! Why didn't you say so before? That changes everything Hmm

Not only is WiFi theoretically safe (non-ionizing... remember?) but there is also loads of research out there showing no correlation between number of cancer cases and increased WiFi usage through the years.

You people are left whining about "science" gleaned from YouTube videos and accusations of astroturfing to everyone else, because that is all you have got.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 20/12/2019 09:13

Don't be such a non-believing troll, Cote.

😂

namechange1234569 · 20/12/2019 09:23

What? The IoT is considered dangerous? So my 15 cm raspberry pi could be used as a weapon of mass destruction? Grin

CoteDAzur · 20/12/2019 09:51

Soup - Isn't it amazing that all these single-issue new names are popping up to say those of us who have been on MN for +10 years are telecom industry shills and trolls Grin

ExCwmbranDweller · 20/12/2019 10:02

Well as someone whose job includes a shit tonne (actual scientific measurement) of ionising radiation who has also read up on 5G I stand with CoteDAzur and the rest of us - scrolls back up thread to check - "industry astroturfers" Grin Grin Grin

WTF is an industry astroturfer?

wavybaby · 20/12/2019 10:27

Right where do I start, well, you could take a look at the 23K + existing scientific studies showing harm done by existing electromagnetic frequencies to human, (children) animals and plants(yes that's trees too). 5G - well if you want to be surveilled and dosed with emissions from aerials on rooftops, on bus shelters and at street corners... fine and if you want your home to be part of a smart grid - fine, but do you really want your babies and children to be emersed in a world where they are saturated by emfs - an invisible pollution? Do you really? I don't so I've hardwired the internet, we used a corded phone, limit mobile use to emergencies, refused a smart meter and do not have any smart gadgets in the home including a smart tv. Why/ Because I've read the science and listen to scientists, experts and researchers and because I got sick and ended up with electro sensitivity (ES) around wi-fi and smart tech

Oh yes - and I work with kids who have parents distracted by phones and social media. Please remember that while we are on social media, we've been ignoring our kids - please remember they need us to be there for them, in mind.... and in body!

Oh and I've been on Mumsnet for over 14 years but not been as moved to comment as much as I have been today!

So bring it on trolls - that's what you're paid to do isn't it?

ExCwmbranDweller · 20/12/2019 10:50

Why are we trolls if we disagree? Is it not possible for people to read different types of literature and come to different conclusions without being trolls? Or has the whole #no debate crap spread to everything? Because true science is accepting that you could also be wrong given new evidence, give me evidence and I will review my opinion, just so far nothing I have read has convinced me.

Also, sadly, not paid by anyone at this current moment.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 20/12/2019 10:56

Oh and I've been on Mumsnet for over 14 years

Is that all?

AutumnRose1 · 20/12/2019 11:22

I'm still wondering why an internet of things is meant to be so exciting.

sorry if being thick.

wavybaby · 20/12/2019 11:51

(My previous post wasn't having a dig at other mums who want a discussion, it was a dig at the PAID Trolls who's job it is to discredit everything that might not be in an organisations interest) Scientific evidence - www.emf-portal.org/en?fbclid=IwAR02t2VgLjDsvV3fin1QgEySr8VYDPDur5_zpXrdxY3pX4fdmnZNmxmpbOw
