Mole?

I've got this thing on my abdomen. I've had it for about a year and lately I've noticed it's changed. The dark colour on one side has appeared. It's been on my mind to get it checked. Today I noticed it's been bleeding. Any ideas what it is? I know it's hard to see from a photo. I've got an appointment for the 11th but the fact it's bleeding is freaking me out and I wonder if I've left it too long Sad

I'm freaking out a bit here as I was having a little search (fatal) and my 'mole' looks exactly like nodular melanoma.

STEP AWAY FROM THE GOOGLE!!

I thought mine looked exactly like a type of melanoma too, but clearly the dermatologist disagreed!

There are many perfectly benign lumps and bumps that are similar in appearance (e.g. seborrheic keratosis) and only your dermatologist can diagnose yours.

I know it's so, so hard when you have a bit more waiting to do, but googling will not change the outcome and is just going to stress you out.

Footle · 06/12/2019 15:24

I don't know what it is, I'm not a medical person, but I have reason to think you shouldn't have to wait.

MerryInthechelseahotel · 06/12/2019 15:40

I have tried to get a cancellation yesterday afternoon and today but they don't have any. I wish I hadn't moved surgery but there's no point wishing. I will try again on Monday. Thank you all for your kindness and advice. I will certainly step away from google. I'm not doing that again.

Is it possible you have caught it where it sticks up and made it bleed and the dark area is dried blood inside rather than actual dark pigment?

Obviously you must still see the doctor but if that's likely it would be much less worrisome.

MerryInthechelseahotel · 06/12/2019 16:14

I would love it to be that GlamGiraffe I am going to refuse to think about it over the weekend at least!

Still hoping it's a seborrheic wart or something like that.

MerryInthechelseahotel · 10/12/2019 13:18

I've just had a google! I never thought I would be so excited to have a wart! I'm so hopeful it is that. Thanks footle

I’ve just had the exact same thing looked at and was told it was what @Footle has mentioned above. I’m waiting for a letter to say whether it can be scraped off Sad or whether it’s needs local anaesthetic.

MerryInthechelseahotel · 10/12/2019 13:25

Brilliant! So pleased for you! Hopefully I have a wart!!

Let us know how you get on today @MerryInthechelseahotel!

Also just to say that seborrhoeic keratoses aka seborrhoeic warts aren't actually warts, though they are wart like and completely benign!

@GoBackToPartyCity I had one shaved flat a few years back because it was catching on clothes. Just a quick local anaesthetic in my GP surgery, the whole thing took about 15 mins and it was no bother at all.

MerryInthechelseahotel · 11/12/2019 09:11

Thanks lemon that would be amazing if it was one of those. Appointment is just before 2 and I will update after

Fingers crossed for you today op, I have had around 6 moles removed at various times, all looked different to each other, all come back clear all ok.

2 were on my waistband and kept catching on clothes etc, which made them itchy and one bleed, so then you think the worst, but please just get them looked at and no more Googling!

MerryInthechelseahotel · 11/12/2019 09:58

Mine is on my waistband too festive so that could be the reason for it bleeding. My mum had a malignant melanoma and my brother had (I think it was) a basal cell carcinoma and in the past I've had a skin lymphoma (nothing like this) with lots of light treatment which makes you more prone to melanomas so this is why I'm paranoid.

chelseahotel, yes its easy for moles to catch on clothes, and most of the time they are harmless, mine looked quite similar to yours. I have another rubbing on my bra strap and its starting to rise, but quite pale at the moment so will get it checked. One on my arm was huge it grew so fast and was bleeding due to being caught on a door of all things, it was taken off very quickly (I was amazed how deep they go, I saw it) but it was fine

My doctor once said if we removed all your moles you would look like Edward Scissor-hands had been at you!

We just have to be vigilant with moles and most of the time they are harmless, but any worrys get them looked at as you are doing. When others in the family have had problems it does make you more aware.

Good luck for this afternoon

namina · 11/12/2019 12:23

It looks suspicious to me , good to get it checked. I hope it's nothing serious x

MerryInthechelseahotel · 11/12/2019 14:37

Ok everyone I feel such a drama queen but it is definitely a seborrheic keratoses and the gp is going to remove it at some stage! Thank goodness for that! I can relax now!! Thanks for all your support 🍸

Such a relief when you now its going to be ok and the GP will remove it in time, cheers!!!

lemonjumper · 11/12/2019 15:31

Yay! That is brilliant news! So pleased for you.

Footle · 11/12/2019 19:38
