Need to ask a question about nits!!!!!!

Dd has come home with nits again! I bought come full marks mousse and combed hers and all of our hair through. All of us apart from dd were clear. Dd had 1 nit (which was dead) and 2 eggs. I thought that was the end of it and when I comb through I am really thorough. Anyway thought I had better comb her hair through again tonight and found about 20 eggs. They were tiny really and unfortunately didn't find any live ones.
Could it be that theses were in dd's hair on Saturday but were too small to come out on the comb. It's just as I haven't found any lice I am worried I may have missed them. Don't know how though as I always take ages and go over the same section of hair about 20 times to be sure.
Has this happened to anyone else that you have found eggs and no lice? Any help on this would be great. These things are the bane of my life!!!!!!!

I can't stop scratching now.

neetsmassi · 28/09/2004 18:12

Blossomhill - I used slightly more than the amount I would have used for shampoo IYKWIM - Good luck - let me know how you get on

foxinsocks · 28/09/2004 18:14

so the eggs are like black dots then and the live lice, I should be able to see those?

blossomhill · 28/09/2004 18:18

Thanks neetsmassi - I'll report back later.

Foxinsocks - From what I have seen they are not black but a brown cream colour. The eggs remind me of glue a bit (yuk).

The lice are disgusting, especially what I call the "Queen". Which is the one laying all the bl**dy eggs The have legs and everything. Don't I am itching again and I haven't got anything. I only know because I have combed my hair through about 20 times!

Well have finished. Found 1 live one (yuck) and 3 eggs (too much info - sorry). The oil seemed good and at least you could see rather then having to get through loads of conditioner!

Another vote for the Nitty Gritty comb here. It's well worth it. I've been through my dds hair with the plastic combs, thought I was clear. And then gone through with the big Nitty Gritty comb and found more live ones and eggs. IMO it's the only thing that gets the eggs out really effectively. There's no escape from that comb!
And, yes , My dds have had eggs and no live nits before. I can only assume someone has them at school, they've hopped on, laid eggs, and got off again!
Wishing you luck.

blossomhill · 28/09/2004 21:45

Batey - Thanks. Not sure if I should have bought the nitty gritty comb instead of the Bug busting kit. Nits are so expensive and you should be able to get these things on prescritpion I think! The last time dd had them I spent £40. Dd's school have said that if you do find live lice you can get stuff on prescription. Hopefully I won't need any more chemicals as I did dd's hair with full marks mousse on Saturday!

I'm reading this thread for future reference, BH and now I CAN'T STOP SCRATCHING!
You would think I would've learned after the thread about your dd's party.

blossomhill · 28/09/2004 21:52

coppertop - now that is a party i will never forget
Thankfully ds hasn't had them but then again 6 year old boys don't tend to cuddle like the girls do!

Received the bug busting kit today, under 24 hours after order was placed. I am impressed. I was also impressed as apparently people with special needs work and help pack up the kits so having a special needs child myself that made me feel happy. The only thing that did p me off is that you can get them on prescription from September 2004. Never mind!

I would highly recommend the bug busting kit. The combs are brilliant and you get a cape and brilliant instructions and advice. It is also available on prescription!

Sorry to say ladies, the only thing I ever found to work was a Number 1 cut!

charliecat · 30/09/2004 15:55

BH, just thought id let you know my dd too has nits...not sure how bad yet, saw a brown egg this morning and I myself have done nothing but scratch all day since seeing it so I will update but your not alone!

blossomhill · 30/09/2004 23:11

charliecat - def. get the bug busting kit if you can. You can get it on prescription according to the manufacturers. I haven't done dd's hair tonight as according to the instructions you should comb the hair through every 2-3 days. It is not worth doing every night apparently!
I do sympathise though, they are bl**dy awful.
This will make you laugh, the kit has stickers with a picture of a nit on it (why I don't know?). Dd found them and says I want one so i let her have one and she put it on her school jumper. Dh comes and says why is she wearing that sticker with a nit on it. So I was winding him saying they had given one at school to all of the children with nits so they knew who had them. He believed me and was furious, but found it funny when he I told him I was only joking (after about 10 minutes ).

Well DD1 had 3 teeny eggs and one medium sized bug. The eggs were so small I could have missed 20 of them easily, so ill be doing her again tommorow. Nothing in me and nothing in DD2
Just going to check out the bug busting kit..

blossomhill · 01/10/2004 11:22

cc - thankfully you've caught them early!!! I still cannot understand how it can get the stage where a child is completely infested. I would know?

Theres twins at dds nursery and they have light coloured hair and they had eggs, lice and dark nits that were very obvious to the naked eye and if you looked under the hair it was crawling...ewww.
Mum had been using full marks mousse but nothing else. Hence there was a build up of dead things and also the lice that the mousse missed...and thier offspring....you can imagine.
They got sent home from Nursery and I explained all about cheap conditioner and nit combs and the whole family, just in case and now shes on a mission to get everyone nit free.
The HV had said, Everyone has them and theres not much you can do... apparently.
I appreciate there are some lazy folk out there who dont do a thing even when they do know, but this mum im sure hadnt been told you could get them out with a comb etc...
Well how would you know, its not until you notice them that it becomes a subject to think/about talk about!

noddy5 · 01/10/2004 15:15

The nitty gritty comb is fantastic my 10 yrold ds won't get his hair cut and it's a godsend.I usually do it dry every night and with conditioner twice a week

blossomhill · 01/10/2004 17:12

cc - that is disgusting and there is really no need for that.

Great news blossomhill ... we got ds1 clear in mid July - and I am STILL itching, especially when I read these threads! I check my own hair at least every week, as I'm convinced I can feel the little horrors crawling around on my scalp

blossomhill · 01/10/2004 19:11

rosisin - know exactly what you mean! even though they are gone pyschcologically (sp???) they are still there. Thankfully I haven't had them (yet!!!)
