Any Dr/Dentists?? - penicillin intolerance/allergy

Had toothache and at dentists today. I am very nervous at dentists. Pain was in a large molar that was already full of a very large filling. Dentist gave me the option of extraction or root treatment/crown. Was a bit panicked about either treatment but decided on crown, root treatment is booked for next week.

To relieve the pain they drilled out a bit of the filling, put an antibiotic into the tooth and put on a temporary filling.

I have just realised I don't know what type of antibiotic they used. Being in the dentist environment and panicked it never even occured to me, and they never asked..... I think, but not 100% sure it does say I have a 'penicillin allergy' on my notes.

I have had reactions to penicillin before. When I was 19 (51 now) it caused an all over rash so was told to avoid. Around 12 years ago when ds had amoxillin syrup, I accidentally licked a drip on my finger and I had a bumpy rash head to toe within minutes, it passed within an hour or so. No lip/throat swelling or anything serious like that.

Should I be worried? Obviously can't ask dentist at this time of night what it was ... Feel okay just now.....

It won’t be penicillin. It’s either calcium hydroxide so not an antibiotic at all or it’s ledermix which is demeclocycline and triamcinolone or odontopaste which is clindamycin and triamcinolone.

The dentist did say antibiotic, was that just layman's terms for the patient?

Yes.
Clindamycin (odontopaste) and demeclocycline (ledermix) are antibiotics just not penicillin based ones.
They are both standard medicaments for dressing the pulp.
You’re fine Grin
