OOOHHHHHH have had these with and without the pain - with the pain when not pregnant and then without when am!!!

Go almost blind - like I have vaseline in my eyes and face feels like swollen as does tongue and get all pins and needles down one side - really scares DP and I have thought I have had a stroke before when had first one when pregnant with DD - my hand swelled up and was terrifying - Midwife said completely common if you get migrane not to get the pain when pregnant but just the other symptoms!!

lilsmum you must go to your G.P and demand a follow up.
This happened to me last year and i thought i was going blind or having a stroke.
I was taken to hospital by a friend and dh was called off of the football pitch and made a mad dash to the hospital while my ds1 and ds2 were looked after by my mum, all this just added to the fear that i was on the way out.
I was given tests and a full eye exam and it turned out to be visual migrain.
I had never had one before but i have had tham since and i feel like i'm dying.
You have every right to tell your DR that you are not happy and want to be sent for tests, good luck

this has happened again today... when i went to gp last time he said if it happened again he would take it further.... i have just realised that when i was pregnant didnt suffer hardly at all with migraines (which is what i think this is) do you think it could be my pill? i am on mycrogynon.. anyone had similar experiences with this pill or any pill?

No, cannot comment about that kind of pill but think it very important that you go straight back to doc and mention the pill. This could be a side effect. The pill is very safe BUT it could be that this brand doesn't agree with you. Any chance you could stop taking it until you get this checked out?

luckymum · 26/10/2004 21:39

I used to take mycrogynon and was fine on it until I had my first baby. After that it just didn't seem to suit me, I felt a bit 'spaced out' on it, just not quite right IYKWIM. Definitely mention it to your GP.

That is a combined pill (meaning it contains both oestrogen and progesterone) and yes could very well be the culprit. Hormones are a known trigger for migraines (and it is thought that that is why most migraine suferers are women). It isn't really know which hormone is the culprit, and whether it's a rise, or sudden drop or what that actually triggers the migraine. But, I would certainly try getting rid of that pill.

Also AND THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT people who suffer from migraines with visual aura should not take the combination pill because of an increased risk of stroke.

migraine and the pill

I was on microgynon years ago & had the most awful migraines. Later when I'd come off it a doctor said if I was prone to headaches, which I am, I shouldn't have been on the pill at all. You should definitely think about changing, and also get your blood pressure checked regularly. Doctors are sometimes not very willing to take things seriously until there's proof eg family history of strokes/high blood pressure/heart attacks

thanks everyone... i went to gp this morn and he has put me on the mini pill. its his mistake he said there is no way i should have been on that pill i wouldnt mind but i went to him a few years ago with this and he never picked up on it then it is me who has realised recently that i didnt have one migraine when pregnant with dd!!and from the replyies on this thread is what got me thinknig i just hope this helps as i really cant cope with these more severe migraines.

What a bloody bozo... if you don't mind me saying so on your behalf. Some GPs (probably all doictors for that matter) are just way too relaxed about the decisions that they make that effect other peoples lives so dramatically. Don't you just wish you could give him just one of your migraines for punishment???

Well, hopefully, you can wave the migraines good bye.
