too much wee?

This might sound totally potty (no pun intended!) but is it possible for a baby to wee too much? Dd has had two massively leaky nappies today, I've had to changer her and her bed twice - once was after her morning nap and once after her p.m. nap. I've just changed her again and she did a huge wee on the mat which is as clear as water. Is this normal? It's definitely more than dd usually does.

The more yellow wee is , the less fluid she has taken , so clear wee is a sign that she is not dehydrated, and is taking plenty of fluid. I'd say she was ok, just drinking a lot. Dark wee is a sign that she needs more to drink, so you are obviously doing a very good job of keeping her hydrated!

Thank you, Lou. I don't want to sound like a neurotic mum but dd has been a bit grumpy the last day or so. She's not drinking more than usual but as you say, at least she's not dehydrated!

As babies get older, they wee less often. This is normal, and goes with the gradual maturing of the kidneys. What you're seeing is the accumulation of wee, which might have been three or four urinations in the past!

Toddlers of about 2 wee every two hours or so; newborns every 10 minutes. So within that time, the intervals gradually stretch.

No need to worry at all, I wouldn't think.
