IBD, colon cancer, inflammation in gut

Hi all, Im 31 and recently had a bout of irregular movements. A FIT stool sample confirmed I had small traces of blood in poo and today a calprotectin stool test found I have 256 mg in stool which means I have inflammation in my gut. I have had all my blood tests which show everything is fine (no infection or anaemia) but I am worried this could be something more serious. I have been referred for colonoscopy, has anyone had anything similar with calprotectin tests or inflammation? I don't have any symptoms such as hurrying to toilet, I generally feel fine. have been tested for celiac which came back negative.

Will also say my dad recently passed from cancer and doctors said stress (as usual can be contributor) would like any opinions and advice please. thanks

Hi Crossroads
Sorry about your dad. 💐

How soon will you have your colonoscopy?
I don't know much about IBD but I'm sure someone else will.
Re colon cancer when DH was diagnosed he had very severe anaemia as he'd lost a lot of blood.

Did your dad have colon cancer?

Do you have someone to go with you to the colonoscopy appointment?

It's normal to feel anxious about tests, a certain amount of stress is part of life so try not to stress about being stressed!

It's great that you're having the tests. My calprotectin level was off the scale (>6000) and after colonoscopy I was diagnosed with proctitis, which my Consultant said was the 'best' IBD to have. So although it is sensitive, I don't think the calprotectin level is specific. In other words, a higher level doesn't always mean a worse problem.

Stress does cause inflammation in the body. That could be literally all the test is showing - how much stress you've been under.
