I'm late 20s and have generally been well. Never in my life have I had a uti but in the space of 2 months it seems I have had 2. However when I went to the docs yesterday and told her I weren't feeling better after the anti biotics she said my last urine sample 2 months ago showed no infection?
On Sunday I felt shaky and sick and kept needing to pee frequently. However both times I haven't had burning or stinging. I get pain in my kidneys in my back too. I'm up 3/4 times in the night needing the toilet and I wake up with bladder pain as it seems I need the toilet urgently.
This urgency to go in the night has been happening before these 2 "infections". On the dip stick it said I had blood and protein in my urine. I still feel rubbish after the anti biotics. And I'm worried it's something sinister?? What are the chances?
I don't know if this is relevant or normal but when I was younger and used to go out drinking sometimes my kidneys would hurt so much id be doubled over in pain and get shooting pains in my back. Never went to the doctors for it as it would go after half a hour or so but I would have to go home. I haven't damaged my kidneys have I? Sorry it's a bit rambly

Are you drinking plenty of water? I used to suffer dreadfully with kidney infections (hospitalised twice) now my left kidney in particular is really sore and I get achy when I'm dehydrated. I know it sounds a little back to front increasing your water intake but I was advised to do same by gp

Aquamarine1029 · 19/11/2019 20:31

You need to see a specialist. Stop wasting your time with gp's who can't treat and diagnose you effectively.

Mumma1984 · 19/11/2019 20:50

Erm I don't know loads about this but I had a kidney problem as a kid and it was agonizing pain and recurrent uti's, turned out I had reflux ie. the urine isn't draining it's fluxing back up because I had twisted tubes etc, worth asking for a ultrasound referral, I was misdiagnosed for 11 years then rushed to surgery after an ultrasound- now my kidney only works at 60% and I nearly lost it, I'd just push for a referral initially !

Jinglebells10 · 19/11/2019 20:56

Sometimes my fluid intake isn't the best. I've upped it alot over the past week. However still not feeling great. To see a specialist though I need a referral don't I? How long do lab results on urine take to come back?

Yeh you would need a referral but honestly I'd push your GP, your in pain ! Like I said my GP refused to refer me continuously but they don't know about this stuff u need the specialist !

Jinglebells10 · 20/11/2019 06:59

@mumma1984 I saw 2 nurse practitioners not doctors so if by today in still in pain then I'll ask to see a doctor. The nurse I saw yesterday listed all these things that could contribute to a water infection and I said it weren't relevant to me. E.g. had no sex in that time, I wear lose fitting pjs at night. Asked if I was taking vit D and I am. Asked if I clean with any soap and I don't. She just seemed a bit dismissive. But least she's sending my urine off to the lab.
This unbroken sleep is stressing me out and I'm exhausted

Yeh at least sending for testing ! But I do find GP's and nurses a pain for being dismissive especially with me because I have health anxiety... but I have it because they bloody misdiagnosed me for so long!

Mumma1984 · 20/11/2019 07:22

Oh and I think results usually take at least a few days, in the meantime maybe try and get a doc app, keep up the fluids, take neurofen and keep an eye on if you get a fever x

Jinglebells10 · 20/11/2019 08:53

@mumma1984 yes no wonder you have health anxiety. Must have been awful. I had a huge fight when I had to get DS some certain medicine he needed had to go private in the end! Nightmare. I will keep going though if it doesn't sort itself. I feel ill again today and I have to go to work otherwise I won't get paid :( must tuck myself into a corner

Just had my results back and it says no infection but a low white cell count. I'm still in pain. And her advice to me was to drink bicarb and water!

Ask for an urgent referral

Mumma1984 · 21/11/2019 13:45

@Jinglebells10 bicarb and water reduces inflammation and stuff so that's most likely why that comment but if your still in pain I would say you want a referral because it's hampering daily life!

I so feel for you op, it’s miserable, just feeling like you need a wee all the time is bad enough without the pain & feeling ill.
You can certainly have a urine infection without stinging or burning and tests often show ‘no infection’ something to do with the lab not allowing enough time for certain strains to grow I think.
My DD, early twenties, went through a phase of almost constant cystitis/urine infections which antibiotics sometimes sorted & sometimes not.
Drs were not interested in further investigation, it’s just a ‘woman’s problem’ after all 😡
She tried a supplement called D-Mannose (it’s recommended on the NHS/urine infection site)
Been life changing for her, she takes it as a preventative when she knows she’s at risk, a night out with lots of alcohol, if she feels run down etc or if she feels an infection starting.
She hasn’t needed antibiotics for a year since she discovered D-Mannose.
Worth a try I think.
