Swollen lymph nodes, referred for a scan. Scared

I've had a swollen lymph node in my neck for the past 6-8 weeks. This coincides with a very sore throat on one side, and ear pain on the same side. I've also had fatigue and days where I've felt so unwell I couldn't function.

A new symptoms that has sprung up today is I'm producing more mucus from the side of my throat that I'm having problems with.

I have another enlarged node on my collarbone but I'm pretty sure that came up after a my recent flu jab, so I'm not that concerned about that one as I think it has gone down a little.

I've had 3 loads of antibiotics to no avail incase it was a bacterial infection which it wasn't, then had two blood tests which were fine apart from a borderline elevated white blood cell count. Checked for deficiencies and all perfectly fine.

GP is now referring me for a scan and mentioned "speeding it up" which has of course worried me more, though I appreciate the fact she's being thorough.

Has anybody had my symptoms then a scan and everything been ok?

My first thoughts were lymphoma ive been googling but I don't have night sweats and haven't lost weight as far as I can tell.

I would appreciate any reassurance on the matter, thank you Sad

Dilkhush I have asthma which presents as a cough. I've also had a permanent drippy stuffy nose for as long as I can remember in spite of using steroid sprays. I started using nasal irrigation six months ago and, as you say it's miraculous. I don't buy any products though, just mix salt with boiled water and use a neti pot whcih cost a couple of pounds.

I have had tons of problems with (left) ear, eustachean tube, throat, sinuses. I've had a few ct scans. I would think they're looking for infection (even viral or fungal) deep in the sinuses. I've had bacterial sinus infections that required a 3 month course of a different antibiotic.

Please try not to worry - easier said than done!

My ENT dept do "urgent" scans if the "infection" is active - so that's not a worry in itself.

Def try the NeilMed nasal rinse as PP suggested. Stay hydrated. Paracetamol & ibuprofen (obvs if you can take these!!!).

Sounds like you are fighting a nasty infection and your body is doing its job - don't overthink this and worry

Thank you all so so much for coming on to reassure me, I'm feeling alot less anxious than yesterday.

It's the fear of the unknown with scans and investigations isn't it, I've never had so much as an x-ray so the mention of further investigations shook me up a bit.

I've just got something similar to eputex from superdrug but couldn't see the neilmed in there so I'll pop to boots, just stopped to have a cuppa at a cafe.

Suffice to say my GP hasn't uttered a word about lymphoma or any other cancer at this stage, it's self inflicted worry from searching up symptoms Blush

Everything bacterial is ruled out but it most certainly could be viral

Hi,

Can I ask if you got to the bottom of this? I’m having similar issues.
