Antibiotic Use

Quick poll really to ask how many courses of antibiotics you’ve had in the last year? I’ve had a really bad run this year and had 5 - 2 were short courses connected to a tooth extraction and then I’ve had 2 chest infections this year and now a nasty throat infection. I’ve not needed any in the 2 or 3 years prior to this year but I’m a bit concerned! Hmm

@Ginfordinner yes in this country they are and it is up to doctors. That's great that your GP is judicious but not all are- though it is getting better. Some will give out antibiotics if put under a bit of pressure from patients not because they need them but because it is bloody hard to treat everyone in a ten minute appointment and sometimes it is quicker just to give in

3 times for the same chest infection that turned into pneumonia and I’m bloody over the moon that I had them as I couldn’t breathe and had awful oxygen levels!

DD's ear infection was so bad that the doctor called the student nurse over to look at it so that she could see what it looked like.

I had a lung infection earlier this year that didn’t clear properly the first time and needed treating again a few months later and this strep throat is the first time I’ve had one since I was a teen. I can have years when I need nothing but since being diagnosed with glandular fever and then M.E/CFS/Fibro over 20 years ago I’ve had quite a few viral infections that have ended up as bacterial. I hate taking them but it’s completely essential at times. Sad

Lots this year. Tonsillitis a few times (the proper one that you really need antibiotics for) and several water infections and a kidney infection. Looking into getting some prophylaxis antibiotics to prevent the water/kidney infections
