Enlarged scalloped tongue

Hi all,

I have a scolloped tongue that is slightly thicker than normal. my Dr ordered bloods which have came back satisfactory.

They tested U & E, TSH, vit D, liver, bone & lipid, B12 & folate, Haemoglobin A1c, ESR and full blood count.

my white blood cell and neutrophil counts were was slightly elevated. I do have a few health problems that have been put down as a "connective tissue disorder" but unknown which! I have pain in my hands, elbows & hips constantly. My heart rate is always high, I'm tired all the time but suffer with insomnia, I have recently been tested for asthma or copd due to wheezing but the tests are inconclusive for either. I swing from being constipated to the other (had my gallbladder taken out so its put down to that).

Obviously I have googled, the most common reason seems to be thyroid but my tests were fine. I have read about a condition called Amyloidosis, however its very rare. Is it worth asking to see a specialist to rule it out or ignore it and hope its just one of things?! the gp hasn't requested to see me after the blood test results came back.

Thank you

oh I am female 40 years old. The pic is of how my tongue currently looks! anyone else have this and can give me some reassurance?

My tongue is scalloped and I have b12 deficiency and am treated with 12 weekly injections. I wonder what your actual levels were? Can you get a print off as sometimes they are borderline but won't necessarily be flagged up.

@MegGriffin

I can access my results online.

My b12 was 442 which looks good to me.

Ah fair enough, I thought I would mention it just in case.

The scalloped or pie crust tongue is much more likely to be a symptom of hypothyroidism than amyloidosis. Advice would be to get a print out of your test results and post them online for expert patients to advise. Doctors are very poor at diagnosing and treating thyroid disease.

@NaToth

My Tsh was 0.48

Reference levels at my trust are 0.4-4.0

If that's all they tested, it's neither use nor ornament for assessing thyroid function.
