Cluster of small blisters on DDs upper thigh - any thoughts what it might be?

She's 3.7 and they've been there about 2 months. Don't seem to be sore or itchy. They are at the back of her thigh, on the crease where it joins her buttock iyswim. She has a bit of eczema generally, but they are quite different to that. There seems to be the odd one or two on other parts of her body too.....

has she had c.pox?

smeeinit · 19/08/2007 13:29

oh just realised theyve been there 2 months!!

belgo · 19/08/2007 13:36

molluscum?

belgo · 19/08/2007 13:37

here

loads of children get it. My dd2 has had it for about 3 months, haven't caused her any problems, she hasn't even noticed them.

belgo · 19/08/2007 13:39

they are like small, white pearly blisters, they occasionally become infected, but mostly shouldn't cause a problem.

Are they like tiny buttons - quite hard with a slight whitish dip in the middle? If so, I bet they are molluscum. If I'm right they will go away eventually. Keep an eye on them because they can get infected but apart from that ignore them. Oh, and sometimes they get scraped off by a swing seat or something which gets rid of them, but makes them bleed dramatically but harmessly!

Ah, that sounds like it - thanks chaps. They are not as red as in the picture on the Wikipedia link but otherwise everything else fits with what she's got. Just realised i think I may have one on my thigh then. I've been picking it for ages thinking it was just a spot... probably scarred for life now!

my ds1 had them for 2 bloody years and hasthe scars to prove it!his paed complained that their books still say 8 months max, but her own dd had them for longer

ds1 has these and had them at the same time as eczema - the gp said it was the eczema that was making them a problem as he was itching and causing the molluscum to burst and then spread. At the moment he has quite a few nasty looking inflamed ones and they are sore just after he's scratched them, but I put on a load of savlon and a non sticky bandage and they've reduced dramatically. GP said it was a 'self limiting viral infection that should have no side effects'.
