Absolutely terrified, droopy eye, have I had a stroke?

I've been having problems with my eyes for a couple of weeks, had conjunctivitis in both eyes which after two lots of drops & cream has cleared up. The problem is that my left eye is now all droopy, I spend all day fighting to keep it open & when I first wake up I have to push my lid open with my finger. I can feel tiny twitching muscles in my lower lid but my upper lid doesn't want to stay open. I suffer from ME/CFS & fibromyalgia, I don't know if it is anything to do with this. I'm terrified that I'm having or had some kind of stroke

Have you seen a doctor yet? Any other symptoms?

Hermie12 · 12/11/2019 19:06

My BIL had this and it was Bells Palsy. It does get better. Get checked out asap but don’t assume the worst.

You should seek medical advice asap.

EdWinchester · 12/11/2019 19:07

Could it be Bell's Palsy? You need to see your GP.

Nat6999 · 12/11/2019 19:12

I will make an appointment tomorrow, I'm terrified they might stop me driving, without my car, I'm housebound.

I believe a stroke is considered a medical emergency, so I’d be inclined to check if you have any of the warning signs If you, do I believe it’s straight to A&E.

Appointment with GP if not.

SuperFurryDoggy · 12/11/2019 19:18

Sorry, that was rather abrupt! I hope you feel better soon, it sounds rubbish Flowers

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 12/11/2019 19:21

I had similar a few years ago, xH called whatever nhs direct was back then. They sent a gp out to me very quickly and it was Bells Palsy. It was long enough ago that the system is a bit different now, but if you're worried about it possibly being a stroke then treatment works better sooner rather than later.

ShagMeRiggins · 12/11/2019 19:22

This probably isn’t it, but do consider Horner’s Syndrome. Possibly to do with lipids.

Th e are so many possibilities and I really wish you’d get yourself seen professionally ASAP.

Why do we women not take care of ourselves? If you’re worried you’re having a stroke, ffs, call 999, please. You deserve care.

Remember "FAST"face, arms, smile, timewhen concerned about stroke.

The runny eye bit happened to me in the days running up to my Bells Palsy diagnosis a couple of years ago. I, too, thought it was conjunctivitis until I woke up one morning unable to smile. It was terrifying but needed a very strong dose of antibiotics and steroids to sort it out.

Nat6999 · 12/11/2019 19:36

I don't think it is a stroke because I haven't any numbness, tingling or anything else drooping, just my one upper eyelid. It gets better as the day goes on, by bedtime it is nearly back to normal, I do have very droopy upper eyelids, I can't use eyeshadow now because it all disappears in the pleats & folds

My mum had Bells Palsy a few years back and it was very similar. Started with watery eyes etc. We were terrified because she had a stroke in her 40's but was fully recovered.

The Bell's palsy lasted a few weeks with the droopy watery eye. It took about a month to fully recover. It didn't stop her driving.

Hope the GP goes well tomorrow.

Wolfiefan · 12/11/2019 20:04

You can’t leave getting diagnosis and treatment so you can keep driving. Shock

Vagndidit · 12/11/2019 20:47

With my Bell's I had to tape my eye down before going to sleep, at least for a few weeks. Seems odd that your symptoms come and go. Mine were very much unmistakably there for about 2 months.
With your diagnosis of ME, I'd get to your GP soon, Op.
