Have I broken my arm?

Fell off a step on Thursday- funny really!!! my left upperarm/elbow took most of the impact of my weight- all 12 stone of it

My arm/shoulder area has been sore but must say the pain is getting more intense and shooting on my wrist/fingers now.

I can move move arm, straighten it but the pain intensifies. Have carried on with usual chores ironing cooking etc. DH thinks I may have broken maybe fractured something but I think if I can move it then it's ok.

Do I go to hozzy cause I still have pain or is it just badly bruised?

You could have a greenstick fracture, so i'd say you need an x-ray.

When you say elbow took the impact, do you mean you feel against something or landed on the point or with hand outstretched?
If you look in the mirror, are both shoulders on a level with each other or do you have a slight bump about 1" in on the affected side?
If so, you may have a subluxated (stretched ligament) in the acromioclavicular joint (end of your collarbone).
The other thing that may have happened is you have some swelling in the area which has affected the nerve plexus which is why you're getting the shooting pains.

Can you rotate your wrist OK as you may have cracked your radial head (elbow end of bone on thumb side of your wrist) as this is also common in this type of injury?

Getting it checked is a good idea, but hit A&E early on a Sunday before the Sunday league footballers clog it up

My neighbour bashed his elbow really badly a couple of weeks ago and when he went to A&E they found it to be fractured. They did put it in a sling, but he was advised to exercise it, because elbows seize up really easily and then you end up needing physio or worse still surgery to put it right. He has been signed off work for 4 weeks. I would suggest you go to A&E to get it checked, just to be on the safe side.

I would go for an xray so you know what it is what. It maybe something else and they can strap it.

I did exactly the same jambuttie when gettig out the bath about 10 years ago. They xrayed and sent me home in a sling and said they do't plaster as like MaureenMlove says they seize.

They also sent me for physio after and I had to do exercises. When I said to the the young training physiotherpist the doctor told me it'll never be the same she said right, I'll prove him wrong and she has

I do still get slight [look away now] 'rubbing' (and noisely too) of the bones in my elbow if it's moved whilst not in the usual position but other than that - it's fine, forgotten I've done it.

Thanx folks for the advice.

I had a really unsettled night with pain.

I fell onto my elbow/shoulder. Hubby said my elbow area looks swollen understandably so I say!!!

Think I may just hit the shower and head to A+E to be sure

will update you
