Multiple Chronic fissures

Hi has anyone suffered from multiple chronic fissures? At the moment I can see that I have at least 4/5 fissures 2 of which are very sore at the moment and both have sentinel tags. They are at 11o’clock and 7’oclock the others are on the right side so I think that’s called lateral. Google says the location means this could be HIV, leukaemia, ulcerative/ crohns, syphillis or cancer.

I have been to the doctor and prescribed schricort (he didn’t look just listened to my symptoms) and I’m on day 3 and made no difference. I’m going back tomorrow.

I’m currently having chemo for breast cancer which was removed with surgery. I also had a very long birth where I pushed for 2.5 hours.

Anyway so just looking for reassurance really as I get health anxiety since my breast cancer diagnosis and think everything is cancer.

Has anyone suffered from chronic fissures not in the anterior or posterior location? And more than one at a time?

Thanks

Hi @Jonosmum222 sorry to hear about the BC. You don’t say where the fissures are and I can’t find any info on schricourt...spelling?

I’m hazarding a guess that it might involve the vulva (external part of the vagina)? If so has Vaginal Atrophy been considered?

The other thing to consider is chemo impacting on your immune system to cause this? Sounds like your GP should be giving more detail on what is going on.

Hi @over50andfab sorry yes wrong spelling it is scheriproct ointment I’ve been prescribed.

Also didn’t realise too I didn’t mention the fissures are actually anal fissures. They are awfully painful during a bowel movement.

I'm no doc but I'd presume they are due to your lowered immune system from the treatment? Hence the web mentioning things like HIV - something where your immune system is compromised? Maybe the doc can give something to help ease the pain! X

Hi @Jonosmum222 ah ok, close then! 🙄 The medication you’ve been given is something usually given for piles (haemorrhoids) - something which I have - but I guess does the same thing in that it helps with inflammation and is also an anaesthetic.

I should totally ignore what google says re HIV etc. Anal fissures, like piles, are pretty common. They are a pain....literally....but fissures should go away, they just take a few weeks unfortunately. Creams used to help usually can’t be taken for more than 5-7 days as they can thin the skin.

It does sound very painful, and no doubt the anxiety is not helping. Personally I’d be giving it about 5 days to see if it works. If it doesn’t I’d go back to my GP and ask for something else to try. In the meantime, I’m sure this will have been mentioned, but try to do what you can diet wise so you don’t get constipated, and don’t stop yourself from going when you need to, as waiting can make things worse. Perhaps a warm bath after a bowel movement might help? Also, I try not rub after and put a bit of olive oil on loo paper to help clean, which also helps moisturise (when not using prescription cream).

HTH.
