I get this when I wear Very Flat Shoes, or Very Flat Shoes With No Support (gladiator style sandals for eg)

Beauregard · 18/08/2007 20:48

'fraid so. I had similar pain a few years ago (from too much running, ah, those were the days!!) and the pain was inconvenient as much as anything but when I spoke to an osteopath about it, they took it very seriously indeed!

Katsma · 18/08/2007 23:39

I got this pain after giving birth to DD. Was really bad, especially in the morning when I could hardly get down the stairs. Never got round to seeing anyone about it though.

It just disappeared of its own accord when she was about 6 months old.

hi pelvis, my dad had this-the plantar thing, and it went after a few months. He was told to wear really soft insoles, so he went and got a bit of that temput mattress stuff, a sample and bought some shoes that were a bit big, andput that inside.

I also tik there are some excercises you can do for it, to helpp slrengthen the foot.

hth xxxxxxx

trainers lol, they are my mainstay!!!

Pelvic, how long have you had this??

christywhisty · 19/08/2007 09:50

I have had this in the last few months, coincided with me getting crocs, which are lovely and comfy otherwise and they have the soft heel as advised in the link, but the problem is they have no support for the arch and are flat.

I think my problems are that I have high arches and was advised by a chiropodist that I should wear a heel of 1.5 inches which are difficult to find at the moment as flats are everywhere.

Really need something I could strap to my foot to raise my heel a bit. Trainers don't help me much either because they are flat.

Beauregard · 19/08/2007 19:32

I live in trainers and flat shoes as i'm too tall to wear anything with a heel.

Pirate -I have had it on/off most of the year but it comes and goes.

Christywisty-I have very high arches too ,maybe that is the cause then?

christywhisty · 19/08/2007 20:53

It says here
high arches

that high arches can cause plantar fascitis

Beauregard · 19/08/2007 21:57

Thanks Christy ,interesting link.

Would suggest a referral to a podiatrist would be helpful - they address your spcific biomechanics rather than just 'the sore bits'.
Cross trainers generally have higher heels - givs achilles some support, but you can also get heel inserts to raise and cushion the heel. Sorbothane make some see no 4

MrsWeasley · 19/08/2007 23:58

I had what sounds like the same thing and I was told by GP to wear shoes with heels about 2 - 2.5 inches.
