MMR vaccine but not immune

Can anybody explain?

I had both the MMR vaccines as a child, and this was confined in my medical history, and at 24 I'm currently TTC however my GP have ran some bloods and they show I'm not immune to MMR and need the course again.

The nurse I've just seen was very confusing/didn't have knowledge on the subject as I asked if we could still TTC and she said yes, but the drug leaflet says no for 4 weeks after the jab (so 8 weeks from now with the full course!)

Is it possible to have the injections and not be immune?

Of course it is possible. Read the insert of the vaccine. It will tell you it isn't always effective. Also, immunity from vaccines can wane..meaning many vaccinated adults are at risk of catching these diseases.

I wasn't given the vaccine leaflet to take away, only read to me in the practice, but the NHS and GOV website are very contradicting in what they say.

All vaccines are just hints to your immune system to prime it for recognising and hopefully fending off a real infection later. Sometimes the immune system is too dim to take the hints. So yeah, all vaccines can sometimes fail to provide immunity. Bad luck :(

Can't tell you anything about the TTC, you'll have to check in with a professional on that one.

I’ve been immunized for rubella at least 4 times. My titre never reached the threshold...some people are just like this. Sorry no help with the TTC.

Ah it sucks but it seems to be one of them things. It fails less than 1% of the time apparently.

Thank you though ladies, going to phone the fertility clinic tomorrow anyway because if this is the case I'll have to delay my IVF appt

Hi, live vaccines such as MMR are not recommended in pregnancy due to the theoretical risk the live (weakened) virus could cross the placenta.

Am assuming that the vaccine would take 4w to work effectively, so during that time you should hold off TTC to give the vaccine time to work.

It's important that you develop antibodies to protect your future baby until they can get vaccinated.

It's not unheard of for folk to not seroconvert following vaccination and need re vaccinated in order to develop antibodies.

Hope this helps :)
