My Dad had one fitted on the NHS recently and I think he said that it would have been £5k privately

Morley19 · 06/11/2019 20:05

Oh thanks, that is more reassuring! X

Mr guess was anywhere between 5k and 10k

Do you mind me asking how it went for him? It is my dad too that is going to need one. He is 82. Did they do it under a local rather than general?

Hi

It went really well. My Dad had heart block.... his heart kept stopping and he would pass out, also his general colour was dreadful, pale with blue tinged lips, felt very dizzy and weak all of the time.

The difference is amazing, he has more energy, his colour is normal, swelling in his legs has gone and his heart is beating fine. My Dad is 75.

Yes, it was a local and he cane home the same day.

I hope it goes as well for your Dad :-)

Ah thank you xx

And am so pleased to hear it went so well for your dad xx

Sorry for being nosy but I was just wondering why you need it done privately? This should be done on the NHS without a problem usually without a waiting list because it is usually an emergency or semi emergency.

Trewser · 06/11/2019 23:18

My MIL had one and I think it cost 30k.

Trewser · 06/11/2019 23:20

But she had absolutely top care. Maybe 20k. Dh has gone to sleep so can't check!

Trewser · 06/11/2019 23:20

I think the one she had isn't readily available on the nhs.

Hi thanks for the replies

You're not being nosey at all.

Hospital said it will be 1 - 2 months before the appointment with the cardio - even the GP has said this is too long. So we have convinced my dad to go for a private consultation tomorrow

Thanks

That’s what happened with my Dad, the waiting list was so long for his consultant, just for a consultation, that he paid to see him privately. He was then referred as an emergency by this consultant to have it done under the NHS.
