Well, he has had a kind of clean cold (basically running in the inside), he has been having a wet chesty cough during the night and this morning he vomited (sorry to be graphic) something that had the colour of the antifreezing product we use in our cars (but more yellow than green). I suppose its phlegm combined with bilis. He seems fine otherwise so the question is... what should I feed him (or have to avoid) in order not to upset his stomach further?

Thanks Whymummy. He has been refusing to eat or drink all day long and has been unsually clingy.

...though the clinginess may be due to his father being away, any other suggestions?

Chanra, don't want to worry you but bile-stained vomit should be reported to your doctor - ring NHS direct for advice 0845 4647 HTH

Chandra · 26/09/2004 16:38

Oh oh, is that bad? Thenks for the telephone number, he doesn't be to be too poorly,is clingy but doesn't seem to be in pain, he has not vomited again since this morning, should I cal them anyway?

well I would, just to be on the safe side, they'll be able to tell you if he needs to see your GP... has he had anything to eat or drink yet?

Chandra · 26/09/2004 16:49

Not a proper meal to be honest, he had a bit of rice (first spoon and that was the end of it), 5ml of calpol mixed with a bit of water, he spend a long time laying at the sofa (unussual for a 19 m old) but after the calpol he has been standing at the window waving good bye to imaginary people for half an hour ...

I though that bilis was common in vomit when you have an empty stomach (which he had), is it a common sign of something else?

bile in vomit is only a dangerous sign if the vomiting is very severe as it could mean there's an obstruction in the intestines,i'm sure he was sick because of all the plegm, but phone nhs direct like littlemissbossy said if it gets worse,he will be clingy for a while, most children are when unwell, try and give him some toast or fruit and if he refuses food just give him lots of fluids

dd was ill couple of weeks ago and was sick, rang nhs direct and she said yellowy is ok, and green could be sign of infection, go to gp for amoxycillin(?)that should clear it up...good luck

Chandra · 26/09/2004 20:41

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions, I have rang the NHS and they said it was not needed to bring him in, but if he gets worse I would take him to the GP tomorrow morning.

Thanks again, Ch
