Thyroid nodules? Anyone had them / had them removed, i really want mine removed

I've nc as I'm embarrassed. I've had thyroid nodules for 20 years and have check ups every 2 years with an endocrinologist. I have them scanned every couple years too (last time was April) and they are benign. I have normal thyroid function so no need for any kind of thyroid medication. Endo also said I don't need an operation because of normal thyroid function and because it is a benign condition

However Over the years they've slowly grown and now I feel its noticeable ....I notice it every day and I just feel like I look an absolute freak 😢 as if it's not bad enough I'm 40 and starting to get a wrinkly neck anyway now I've got a lumpy one 🤦‍♀️

I have my next appointment with the endo clinic in December. And I want to ask for them to be sorted as it's impacting on my life and making me really down and anxious. If it helps there's a family history of this exact same thing my mum and 3 aunts all had an op in their 30s/40s

Ideally I don't want an op if it's unnecessary... but I've read online there are other options such as you can have them injected with ethyl alcohol or drained. So has anyone had the same and managed to get treated ?

Help 😢

@TempUserNameForToday Don't worry, I didn't read it like that at all - possibly just my own worries coming through!

Lots of medical procedures do have risks so this could have too, and radiation can be very harmful so it's a definitely a cause for concern. But yes, this treatment is used lots and in a very controlled way, so as safe as it can be.
Anyway just rang for my test results and I am now in the normal range! Fingers crossed I stay like this and don't end up underactive (about a 50% chance of that happening).

@SchoolNightWine

Oh wow that is absolutely great news ! Hope you stay on an even keel now x

I am considering paying for a private blood test to check my thyroid levels so I can take the results with me when I go and see my endocrinologist

Normally I have one just at my gp surgery and it always comes back as "normal". But having read up on symptoms I'm not sure mine is "normal" I have a lot of symptoms for being overactive

So wondered if anyone else had done this? Is it worth doing? And is it any more comprehensive/ detailed than a standard nhs one?

Hi everyone I Wanted to update

Had my endocrinologist appointment today. He confirmed again that my modules are benign which is obvs reassuring

I spoke to him about how much it was getting me down and making me depressed and self conscious

And he has referred me to ENT to discuss possible surgical removal. (He didn't seem to know anything about the alternative treatments mentioned in this post 😩)

So I guess I'll just have to wait for my appointment god knows how long that will be

But it's positive I suppose

I had my thyroid removed in April as it contained 2 cancerous nodules and also 31 lymph nodes removed from my neck. I now have a wrinkly neck with scar!
Fortunately I am finding taking thyroxine daily not too bad, I do get the odd day where I run out of energy very suddenly, but 95% I am ok.
The operation wasn’t too bad.

Wow @Doublethecuddles

Hope you're ok now. I'm glad it went well X

If I have it done, I'm not too bothered about the scar,
My mum had it done around my age and once it had healed the scar was tiny. And that was like 30 years ago so I'd imagine the techniques used etc are even better now.
