Endoscopy-how sedated are you? I'm so nervous....

But really need to have the procedure done to see if I have celiac.
I have a fear of choking and so cautious when swallowing. The thought of a camera down my throat fills me with fear to the point I don't want it done. I know I can be sedated in which I would choose but apparently it's not fully sedated. I won't be aware. What if I am?!

Maybe plan something really nice for when it's over and try not to think about it too much in the meantime.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

I had it done a couple of years ago. I was terrified as I have a very sensitive gag reflex and hate being sick. I was adamant I wanted sedation but the consultant talked me out of it. I had the numbing throat spray but nothing else. It was OK and over quite quickly. Not having the sedation meant I could leave straight after the procedure.

I had sedation as have a history of anaphylaxis and still panic around the throat area if it feels compromised. I remember nothing about it other than hearing the dose increased and then waking up afterwards.

I had sedation and I have no recollection of the procedure at all. I was out of it for the whole time

Where I am they do it up the nose and not through the mouth, the worst bit for me was the nose spray (but even that wasnt bad).
I did have sedation but it had no effect and if I had it done again will opt for no sedation.
Really wasnt as bad as I expected it to be.
