Has anyone seen anything like this (pic)

Apologies for rubbish pic it’s the best I could manage.

I have a mark on my breast, been there for at least a few months, it looks like a small bruise, so I didn’t think much of it at first as breastfeeding a pinchy baby so assumed that was it. But it hasn’t gone away.

I went to the doctors today and he has referred to the dermatologist on the 2 week referral service (ie cancer path) and the word melanoma was mentioned. Although he said he didn’t necessarily think it was but thought it should be checked and this would be the quickest way.

Obviously I am now bricking it but I always thought melanoma was more raised moles? This appears to be under the skin and definitely more bruise like.

Has anyone experienced or seen something like this and what did it turn out to be?

I am not a professional so don't have a clue what it sorry however was hoping to offer you reassurance ( easier said than done i know) but please try not to think the worse because of your GPs referral. He or she won't have been trained to diagnose this by eye and so automatic procedure is to refer to someone who will and the 2 week referral for cancer will not be because they suspect it is but to completely rule it out. So many people are referred everyday and a very tiny percentage will be diagnosed and because you are seen so quick if it is anything to worry about it is dealt with swiftly. X

Thank you. The doctor said the same thing more or less, but I’m a worrier anyway and dr google doesn’t reassure!

Google definitely doesn’t reassure. I’ve just been through the 2 week referral to the dermatologist myself. I was seen within 4 days and they cut my growth out there and then at the appointment but still couldn’t confirm what it was. It’s hard not to worry but it is most likely something and nothing

Eminybob · 02/11/2019 17:45

@Caelaj07 did they say how long until you get the results? Interesting that the removed it there and then. Good luck to you I hope everything is ok.

I was seen within 2 days for a mole and sent away within 15mins tops as there was no concerns from the dermatologist

MaryBoBary · 02/11/2019 18:53

Just to reassure you if they do decide to remove it - I've had 5 moles removed by various dermatologists and the results have always comeback with the all clear. So don't panic too much if they say they will remove it, don't assume that the doctor is convinced its cancer.

Caelaj07 · 02/11/2019 19:00

@Eminybob They said the results can take up to 8 weeks but should be more like 4 weeks. Mine wasn’t a mole though it looked like a carcinoma. Mine could still be something and nothing they are just been cautious removing it

Caelaj07 · 02/11/2019 19:02

@Eminybob there’s also a 2 week referral thread on here for support

Eminybob · 02/11/2019 19:27

I have a mole that looks odd. I was referred on a 2ww and seen within 8 days. The dermatologist looked at it through a special magnifying glass and very quickly said it was fine (it’s a rare thing called a ‘blue mole’, it looks like a spot of ink!). I’m to keep an eye on it and go back if it changes. While I was there though one chap went back out to his wife and said they’d looked at his skin issue and were going to remove it there and then because they were concerned.

No-one can tell you over the internet but at least you know they’ll treat it as urgent and deal with it quickly.

CrotchetyQuaver · 02/11/2019 19:37

Yes I had one of these mysteriously turn up. In fact I couldn't see it because of where it was, it was my DH that noticed it. My GP was baffled, but said he was pretty certain that whilst he didn't know what it was, it wasn't looking like any malignant breast he'd ever seen. TBH I think it was probably caused by something flying up whilst I was strimming. It disappeared after a month or so.

Eminybob · 02/11/2019 21:39

I’m glad I got it checked. I actually went in primarily for a different skin issue which the doctor wasn’t in the least concerned about (I still am but can ask the dermatologist about that too)
I wasn’t actually that worried about the breast and probably wouldn’t have gone in for that on it’s own.
