Heavy bleeding not stopping - when to worry?

Looking for some opinions on whether I'm being overly anxious. DS is 3 months old and I've just gotten my first period after his birth (via c-section, might be relevant?) Anyway I started bleeding lightly 17 days ago and it has been non stop since.

The past 5 days have been really heavy. Like seriously heavy. I'm bleeding through maternity pads which I'm changing every 1-2 hours. It's all over my clothes, my bed, everywhere. I don't even think I bled this bad straight after birth!

So I went to the GP who didn't seem to think it was serious at all. Sent me for some blood tests and said my haemoglobin was fine and so after pushing and pushing her she agreed to give me Tranexamic acid to stop the bleeding. I've started taking those today and still bleeding heavily although I'm sure it will take a few days to stop.

I've had very painful left side cramps through all of this. I'm stressing out that it may be a sign of something serious. Should I be worried? GP didn't seem very concerned but everything I'm googling (yes I know, I know, don't google!) is pointing to some form of cancer. Help!

Just bumping your thread for you. I don't have an answer but I hope someone else does.

How is it today? Is it as bad?

QuestionableMouse · 30/10/2019 10:47

You could have an infection. I think you need to be seen again ASAP.

Not to scare you but there was a poster on here a while ago with heavy bleeding and she was quite seriously ill and needed an ambulance/A&E.

Pretty normal for the first period after giving birth. And you've seen a doctor who's not concerned

However, if you're concerned and it's not improving or it's getting worse then you need to seek a second opinion

pinkstar01 · 30/10/2019 17:36

I don't think that sounds normal at all, atleast from my post birth experience.

OP how are you today? If it's still that heavy I would suggest getting seen again urgently. Too much blood loss can be dangerous.

I had 2 sections. My first period after both was horrific. I remember wishing someone had warned me. But I didn't have a specific pain like you do. And it was relentlessly long but never "flooded".

I'd go to A&E, or go to the GP surgery tomorrow and kick up a fuss. The pain would worry me.

Really hope you're ok. Take care of your lovely self. 💐

Op? How're you doing?

Hampsteadmum476 · 01/11/2019 15:55

Thanks so much for replies! (Thought no one had replied and have only just checked now). Bleeding has slowed down after getting some medication. Had a scan today and they think I made have endometriosis. My left ovary seems to be stuck to my womb? Doesn't seem to be anything sinister thankfully!! Not thrilled with possible endo but thankful for nothing worse!

Did they mention scar issue? I know scarring can form after a c-section, which is why the second c-section has a LOT more "rummaging" than the first.

Glad it's being investigated and glad it's nothing terrifying. Does it still hurt? Must be stressful and hard work dealing with all this on top of a new baby. 💐 Gin
