Multiple black vertical lines under every nail

I guess the heading says it all. Every fingernail has multiple short, black, vertical lines. Should I be worried? I am seeing a consultant shortly but for a totally unrelated matter (I think) but is it worth mentioning?

Not to worry you but I think you should see a doctor asap. It could be something serious although hopefully not. Best to be on the safe side.

As poster said above, could be nothing to worry about but get it checked ASAP. I once heard a story about a nail technician noticing black lines in her clients nails under the nail, and it was melanoma. Get it checked just to be safe Smile

FingersGoneWrong · 27/10/2019 00:55

@katewhinesalot thank you for replying, it seems like such a small thing that I have only recently noticed, but I am having a lot of tests which are all so far inconclusive so I wasn't sure if it was best to mention it just in case

Don’t want to worry you,
But I’d say check it out as soon as u can
I’ve read it could be melanoma

FingersGoneWrong · 27/10/2019 01:01

@31weeksgone Thank you, I don't think it is melanoma related, I am being tested for everything under the sun (excuse the awful pun) but I am being tested for a range of immune diseases, all negative so far

Please go to the dr on Monday.

Normal random tests , for "diseases" don't diagnose cancer.

FingersGoneWrong · 27/10/2019 01:12

@OctoberLovers I had extensive tests as an inpatient and recently as an outpatient and was assured that cancer wasn't a worry. But I have a follow up this week so will mention it

It’s probably a symptom of whatever underlying problem you have, so it’s well worth mentioning.

FingersGoneWrong · 27/10/2019 01:26

@Breathlessness I will, I don't want to waste their time with every insignificant symptom which might be nothing, but at the same time I don't want to skip something which might be important

They could be splinter haemorrhages which can be a sign of some autoimmune diseases. So may not be unrelated. In any case I certainly would mention it at the next opportunity. Have you not mentioned them before? Or are they a new thing?

ScarlettDarling · 27/10/2019 09:11

I can't imagine that you'd have a melanoma under every single nail so I doubt its that. However it's definitely not normal so yes, it needs to be investigated. Hope you get some answers from all your investigations soon.

Flossie44 · 27/10/2019 10:03

Agree with pp. I’d expect that due to it being under every single nail, it’s unlikely to be melanoma but worth mentioning it for sure.
