lots of previosu threads on this but basically Drs and I disagree that DS2 has dairy intolerance/milk allergy. he is on a mostly dairy free diet. i still give him yoghurts and soft cheese but that seems to be hislimit, anything more than that and he will have stomach ache. For the first time in a long time tonight he has had hot (warm) chocolate and woken twice with stomach ache DEF nt chocolate so must be the milk.

actually you are wrong there, DP has seen allergists for many years and he can cope with very small amounts of dairy.

I was almost certain that cows milk was the cause rather than say cheese (which dp can have small amounts of) nor the combination of milk and something else. I am now certain that cows milk is th eproblem. Without the back up and referral of a GP i cannot take ds2 to the allergy specialist nor can i follow "proper procedure" if they won't tell me what that is. I am not hurting my child on purpose, and i resent the fact that you are insinuating that.

as for why i posted...i have posted many times about my concerns and some MNetters know me and will know what i am talking about without judging me and waving their been there done that t shirts in my face. I got some very good advice last time i asked.

Kerry, I think the answer to that lies in the fact that most mums don't want to make a full-blown issue of it.

God knows, I'm no medic, but trials are currently being staged to try to understand why so many children are suffering from intolerances at the moment. One of the lines of investigation is whether it is wise to totally withdraw the allergen in question from the diet.

One theory is that this exacerbates the problem. It will be five years before the findings of these studies will be known.

Sure, there are people with life-threatening allergies. I lost a friend in his forties to a bee-sting. He'd never been stung before, but dropped dead instantly.

But this is an allergy, which will probably pass when ds2 is a little older. MoM is doing all the right things, imo.

Woah! Calm down everyone please

MoM - We need to get Psycho to email you.

Her DD2&3, and DS2 are all intolerant - they have had RAST (??) and show up fine, but the same situation with the tummy ache, constipation/runs situation. Psycho now puts it down to a build up kind of thing - too much of it over x period of time = poorly kids. The doctors have said they are fine to have bits here and there.

She herself has now been told she has an allergy to it - must completely cut it out or the allergen etc will get progressively worse.

Having watched all with her DS2 these last 5 years, they wouldn't do the RAST until about this time last year (so 4 yrs old), and in that time they said to keep trying him with it occasionally to see if he had "grown out of it" - she had the same advice with the girls too.

I have no medical knowledge - this is just the process I have watched with one child.

My baby is lactose intolerebt however he can cope with a small amount in his diet. We have just started trying again to re-indroduce lactose into his diet. We are very hopeful that he will grow out of it in time. But he DEFINATLY can cope with a certain amount. Mom you know your own kid best and how much he can cope with. Good luck!
