Diagnosed with celiac disease HELP!

Petrajayne26 · 13/10/2019 09:46

I have recently been diagnosed with celiac disease and have been recommended to cut bread products out my diet.I been having acne on the buttocks since childhood and upset stomach started to become noticeable in adulthood it use to only happen if i was due a period, go through a stressful event or if i drink lucozade. 4 months ago i stopped taking birth control to try and conceive a second child since stopping birth control i started to notice numerous health problems. I have had ginigivitus, heart palpatations, bladder infection and an upset stomach happening 1-2 times in the morning sometimes 3 times. I have not ovulated for a few months. My period is late last one started 5 weeks ago. I have tested negative for pregnancy. Have been gluten free for 2 days. How long does it take for an upset stomach to clear up once a gluten free diet starts? And how long for acne? I also feel like I have a pulled/stretched muscle sensation around my abdominal area. Is it possible my disease is causing me late periods and a fertility problem? I conceived my first child within 2 months. I also notice I get anxious in the mornings since my upset stomach problem started. I feel fine once I go out with my son and come back home for the afternoon. Also should i avoid trying gluten free bread until things start getting better? Since been diagnosed with this disease i been feeling more anxious and stressed. i am worrying about becoming underweight if this upset stomach doesn't stop. I'm worried I'm not going to conceive a second child. I want my son to have a brother or sister as I was an only child and found myself often lonely for not having a sibling and was bullied a lot at school. My son is very social with other children and laughs and gets excited if he sees children on the TV. I am Struggling to focus on my every day activities thinking about this change in my health. Also to make things worse i am full of a cold making me feel tired and sluggish.Sad Please help. I am struggling to cope with my health problems.

I’d start here: www.coeliac.org.uk/home/

Try to focus on the positive things you can do you manage the condition.

Being an only child isn’t the worst thing on the world - I’m sure your son just wants a healthy and happy mum.

How have you been diagnosed? You should be referred to a dietician. We don't have much of the gf Bread stuff here, we manage with natural gf foods rice , potatoes etc

If you're used to bread I suggest you don't have it for a while as it's an acquired taste !

My first shop took nearly 3 hours, gluten is in so much more than bread.

and breathe...
You seem to be catastrophizing OP.
Take each step at a time. Research the foods you can eat, create a shopping list and meal plan.
Join a FB group if that will help you - chatting with others and sharing experiences may help you. I'm sure some MNs knowledgeable in how to manage it will be along shortly.
Where are you located? It's spelled coeliac in the UK & Ireland. I believe it's celiac in the US and elsewhere. In case thar makes it easier to find groups.
Don't worry about conceiving a 2nd child at the moment. Concentrate on getting your diet right, enjoy your little one and your current family. Having a baby and toddler whilst suffering with anxiety and stress won't help you just now.

I'm sure it will all improve and you'll be back on track with your plans in a few months. You just need time to research and get in a habit of knowing what to eat when out in restaurants, at friend's houses etc. It's bound to take time, but the good news is that you got a diagnosis, so your health should get better from here.

@Petrajayne26 Who did the diagnosis, because the advice given have been recommended to cut bread products out my diet is incorrect, it is bread and a zillion of other things, pasta, many hams, hamburgers, sausage, fries, sauces including soy sauce, candies, stock cubes and even beer and of course, biscuits, crackers, pizza and all products made with wheat
My brother was diagnosed with coeliac disease, and having him for dinner when we lived in the same city was a nightmare. From chopping board to knives, we had to make sure there was not a single crumb.

I am not familiar with the NHS (we are French) , but I found it hard to believe they would give you a diagnosis and just send you away like that, saying to just avoid bread.
