IUD pain please help

Hello I'm a newbie and really need some adivce please. Sorry it's so long, but I am having problems with my new copper T. It's been in a month and have been spotting badly for most of the month ever since. This has been accompanied by lots of stabbing pains some in my legs, and low dull aches sometimes taking my breath away. I had about 4 days of no pain or bleeding (hooray actually managed to enjoy the benifits of the new device). Now I have the most horrendous period, the heaviest I have ever had, and I'm changing my tampon and thick towel every few hours - not great on my 13 hour trip back from France yesterday. I feel rubbish and anaemic.

Can anyone reassure me: Will the pains stop, will the bleading get less during future periods and does the spotting stop in between - I've heard it can take 6 months to settle down? Or are some pople just not suited to an IUD atall? All advice gratefully received. Doblinski

You must go to your doc as you may have an infection. I had an infection when my 1st coil was fitted. This time I'm ok. The coil should not be causing more pain.

Sorry to ask, but what happened when you got the infection please hellobello?

It was a long time ago, so I can't remember much about it, but I do remember it was pretty bloody painful. I went to my doc who said that infections can happen since you're putting a foreign body somewhere it doesn't naturally go. I was given a course of anti-biotics and had no further problems. I left it in for about 8 years.

I now have another one because I don't find the pill at all pleasant and I'm too lazy to use anything else.

I hope you feel better soon, but you really must see your doc ASAP, or if you're close to an A & E, go there. It's no fun being in pain and it needs sorting out.

Not an infection; but Doc has persuaded me to keep going as things should get better. So fingers crossed, though I'm still hoping someone can shed light on this for me?

My periods are definetly heavier since I had my coil fitted - but if you are still concerned ask to speak to the doctor again - or one of the nurse at your GPs as they are usually more approachable!
