If sumatriptan made you nauseous, did you find it any better with any of the others?

The nausea is definitely related to drug rather the migraine directly. It's fairly short lived but really horrible....

I found that Triptans made me feel worse than the actual migraine and gave up on them completely.

Aspirin has been life changing for me. A few years ago, on the advice of a new GP I took a large dose of aspirin at the first sign of aura and it didn’t develop into a full blown migraine at all. I’ve done this every time since, even with those slightly dodgy ‘is it a migraine or just funny lighting’ moments and have not had a full migraine attack since.

Sorry not to really answer your question but I’ve become a bit evangelical about aspirin and migraines!

They really have horrible side effects. Great to hear you've got something that works.

I've tried high dose aspirin route, codeine/ paracetamol/ibuprofen route but only the triptans help but I have to be ready for the 2hrs of it being worse before getting better.

I find migralieve works for me.

Apparently there's an injection that helps too but I can't remember the name of it.

I take sumatriptan but also have to take an anti nausea tablet as well (avomine) the combination does work for the migraine/sickness but they do make me very drowsy to the point of falling asleep for a good few hours and I feel ropey the next day which is tough but it's still better than the pain.

Sumatriptan works for me too no nausea either.

I’ve recently been to see a neurologist who decided that since I had taken six the previous week for a 3 day migraine that saw me bed bound for one day that I take 24 a month (I don’t maybe 9-12 a month), hw said I should take no more than 4 a month and it is the triptans that are causing the migraines. I disagree but going to cut down to 4-6 a month and see if it has any effect.

I’ve also tried the high dose aspirin, migraleve, propranolol, pizotifen and am on topiramate just now.

I saw a new neurologist this week who was saying there are about 8 different triptans and they each work for roughly 40% of people which was interesting. Have only tried a couple and they both have me a terrible crushing neck pain along with not really helping but am going to try a few more..

Tip: if you try aspirin, do not take on an empty stomach, gives you incredible nausea and stomach pain! My dc was prescribed triptans but also an anti sickness melt tablet to take alongside, he gets hemiplegic migraines, only just got triptans so yet to see if they are going to work!

Worth discussing taking a ppi if you are using ibuprofen naproxen or aspirin regularly. I take daily naproxen along with other things for migraine and make sure I'm always taking omeprazole now too.

Have you tried the nasal spray option? Amazing.
