My 14yo dd h as had on and off back pain for 4months.she is quite sporty and on top of 3 school pe lessons each week does Park run, 2 hours dance, hockey club and 2or 3 gymnastics sessions per week(which she likes best)
One day she complained of a sore back after lifting some stuff after a gymnastics session. She did nothing for 3 weeks til the pain was completely gone, but after a few minutes of gymnastics the pain was pack. This cycle of hurt, rest til the pain has gone and then a few gymnastics moves and it's come back again has continued for months.
The gp who thought it was muscular referred her to a physio. In the meantime she saw an osteopath who thought it was a apophyseal joint and dus done stuff but it came back again. We have niw seem the physio but unfortunately it was feeling quite well at that time so he could not really diagnose. We have made another appointment and he has told her to do something to make it hurt the day Before. The pain is on the rigthNd edge of her spine near the bottom, is made worse by arching her back and a numb feeling radiates into her buttocks
Anyone else had anything similar?

when was the last time you changed her mattress ,i experienced awful bad back.Until i realised how ancient my second hand mattress was .A orthopaedic mattress made a world of difference

Three weeks isn't long enough for everything to get back to normal after an injury IMHO, 6 weeks is probably what I'd consider a minimum, and then easing back very slowly into activity for another 6 weeks after that.

Did you take her to see a physio who specialises in sport / gymnastics injuries and rehab, or was it a regular one?

To be honest (and speaking as the parent of a dc who took dance all the way to professional) your dd really needs to stop all activity - including school PE - until after Christmas.

OP ask for an MRI if refused I think you can pay privately- not a medic but sounds like disc problem

With the best will in the world, and all due respect to them, the NHS isn't geared up for treating children who also happen to be elite athletes or dancers.
You really need the professional advice of a physio who specialises in injuries connected with gymnastics or sport at a high level. Perhaps her gym teacher could suggest someone? It will probably have to be private though.
